What happened to female R&B groups?

I had a discussion with someone earlier today about the disappearance of female R&B groups and what caused it, and I'm curious to hear y'all's opinions. The last big female R&B group that I can think of is Destiny's Child, and after that, no one else really comes to mind after they broke up. In the '90s and early 2000's, you had groups like TLC, SWV, Xscape, Total, etc, and they were all popping at relatively the same time, so what's happened since then and caused female R&B groups to seemingly vanish?
