Medieval times fantasy. Marvel comic books. There's been various genres that have taken over for a number of years, maybe some were shared but it held an audience's attention for various years.

We've had a school of wizardry, dinosaurs, a drug dealing suburban dad, car thieves turned international criminals and spies, salesmen and women selling paper, a space opera and an Avatar(s). They've all been the talk of the internet and showed in the box office and TV ratings but what's next? What could captivate audiences like they did for that many years? Or would another phase of these work the same way?

Could another civil war love story take over like Gone With The Wind? A new war in space? Another Biblical epic with chariot racing? Another mystery on an island? Could the Old West make a splash?

Yeah, I know. :gucci:

But what other genre could do this?
Nothing on TV given anymore. GOT is the last appointment television show. Anything else will have to transcend everyone watching everything on demand rather that be streaming or off a DVR. Going to require being a show being an all-time legend and with a previously established and large fanbase like GOT was with the books. That type of TV content is going to be like once in a generation or once in a generation with the landscape of TV nowadays.

TWD did it for a few years. Not sure we’ll see another on tv, content is too segmented nowadays, those shows that were able to do it came out right before the transition that happened over the past ~4 years.

Ironically Star Wars could have been that franchise. These dumb fukkers had a gold mine in this franchise and turned it to trash. If I directed the latest Star Wars trilogy Avatar would have been beat by now.
