What do you think are the best video game genres?

This year feels like a delight for JRPG fans and me being one this satisfies me greatly. FFVII Rebirth next week, SMT Vengeance in June, we JUST got Persona 3 Reload this month and Atlus got a new IP dropping later this year. There's some others I didn't mention either.

Besides JRPGS though, 3D platformers, third person shooters and action-adventure games are my favorite genres though I'm not sure if third person shooters are separate genres.




There's just too many to choose from
but my favorite games usually are within these three genres.

turned based strategy rpg, preferably grid based

Would have checked fighting games and sports games but DLC and pricing practices (releasing the same game multiple times during a systems lifecycle, releasing the base game for full price, dropping paid DLC, then offering GOTY with everything included for $30 six months later) make me feel indifferent towards them.

They would fall under Western RPG also they are my favorite very genre of games as well for the reasons you give

It’s really action-adventure shooters that are dominating the field now.

Doesn’t have to mean it’s the best game, but I will usually check it out if it’s in that category.

I gotta have an interesting story, told through cutscenes, good combat, and an environment that is rewarding and fun to explore.
