What do you guys think about all this suing lately?

With Marvin Gaye's estate suing Robin Thicke and Pharell for imitating a groove, cowbell, and vocal vibrato, and now Aquarian Dream is suing Mac Miller for sampling them on a free track (that he's performed for money), do you guys feel scared of sampling? Or is this just a "cut your checks if you're famous" sort of thing?

I'm sort of getting a little scared. I'm working on a project with a guy that's based on samples from old episodes of Spongebob. Hope Viacom don't go for my throat.

Ok. I've read a lot of people talk about how it's choking the genre and stuff but I just wanted to see what other producers thought of it.

I've considered re-recording them, but the concept of the project is sort of rooted in it. Mind if I message you to talk about it more?

I always like to take note of what happened with Drake and Best I Ever Had. The song blew, but it was a sample. They never cleared it. They were taken to court, lost and didn't make a cent out of it, but look where they are now. Not saying to pull a Boi-1da, but sometimes with the right artist, getting sued is whatever compared to the grand scheme of things.

I heard that Marvin Gaye's daughter filed a lawsuit against T.I. now. I'm not sure how true that is, though. I didn't look it up or do any research on it.
