What do you do about kids who want mentor-ship?

There is this kid who I met at one of my Art shows, he's not really a kid he's like 17 or 18 but seems to know everyone in my social circle.....all the early 20 year old hoes too lol I guess its because he had cool parents that were pretty big in the music biz...I actually don't know.

Anyway when I see around the neighbourhood ill say hi and chop it up for a bit. But recently he's been saying shyt like lets hang out and smoke or whatever. I remember being that age and I know he just wants a mentor and looks up to me (i just turned 28) but it makes me feel weird. It looks weird as hell hanging out with a 18 year old kid and I don't think im in a position to mentor anyone.

Has anyone else been in this situation? How do you deal with this....I dont want to sound like an a$$hole but I got my own shyt to deal with and the last thing i wanna do is hang out with an 18 year old brat. He's a good kid tho and very mature for his age..I pretty much talk to him like were equals.

Just let him know you too busy to hang out, I'd keep in contact to offer advice though and keep in touch.

Show the young bul the ropes, daddeh. Drop some gems in his ear, see how he uses 'em. Not all youngsters are a$$holes/begging for attention. He might even teach you a thing or two if you ain't careful.​

Unless you work for the same employer there is no such thing as being a mentor. Just being a pedophile.

He should be taking the initiative to make it clear what he wants from you. In these relationships you're not expected have the time to become a full on mentor for some lil kid. That's why the kid invites you to lunch or something and makes his sales pitch there, not following you around all the time

find out what the nikka wants and if you think he's worthy of your tutelage then show him some love

Well I don't mean equals but I don't patronize him. I don't really know how to deal with people that age because I'm so far removed from it. Its weird though...I was at a Halloween party last night and I saw him chopping it up with some of my old chicks even though they were like 3-4 years older.

careful with that shyt breh. if dude is too pushy it's not a good thing. Not even saying he's gay or trying to rip you off in some way. there's something off about this whole thing though. Dude is most likely lonely or lacks direction and is looking for someone to show him how to be a man. Probably wants to ride your coattails a little bit too (being associated with you gives him some accessibility to older women and some "clout" with younger ones maybe). Not saying he's planning all this though. It's all good as long as he doesn't become dependant on you/starts to expect from you (unless he's paying you somehow).

Whatever you decide to do has to be an exchange of value you are satisfied with. if not, you will resent him and feel you're taken advantage of and eventually distance yourself from him and maybe make an enemy of him (added stress)

I try to hang around older people. Even when I was that age, learning from the mistakes of my elders. So that when I get to be their age, I'm not them. Does he have plans for a future?
