The fact of the matter is pretty much every day there will be a news story about a new horrible thing that the federal government is doing.

You're going to see things that make you lose faith in other human beings and things that will anger you.

You'll need two things:

1. A way to channel that anger into something that helps you feel like you have the power to do something about your material conditions.

2. A way to avoid becoming flooded with negative feelings that make you either want to crash out or tune out completely. You will need to strike a balance between the two.

So I'm asking the community itself on here: do yall want a thread where we can discuss how to do the above kept up on the locker room front page?

It would have these kinds of headings:
1. Money and how to make it, save it, and spend it strategically.
2. Organizations currently helping people and how to support them.
3. How to protect your mind from the relentless psyops that will be deployed on a nearly daily basis.
4. Which news sources you can trust to give you legitimate journalism.
5. How to protect your data and which alternatives exist so you can get away from the platforms owned by the people who excuse (zuckerberg) or straight up encourage white supremacy (musk)

We would also have something like coli bluesky/mastodon accounts, lemmy page, and discord servers in the event that the website goes down. We should assume that we are being monitored as well. Copies of the thread will exist on those platforms.

If it helps people, have at it.

A few months ago I decided to pull back from the news. I'll still sometimes check out headlines or a quick story but I don't keep up with as much world news or politics as I used to.

To some degree, ignorance is bliss. Too much of the news cycle is an endless parade of things that only serve to frustrate and anger the public.
I still kept my NYT subscription, mostly for the games, Wirecutter and The Athletic. Rarely do I even look at the front page of the website/app.

Obviously you can't avoid all the news all the time. The coli will always spread some bullshyt happening in the world, and so will reddit and other media pages. But we can limit our exposure to the madness to some degree.

But that should be the point: That bad news should spur you on to make better choices in regards to politics at every level. Ignoring what is going on is how we get in these situations, because people will ignore the fukkery and not recognize it when it is time to go against it. Ignorance is bliss until the things you depend on or appreciate start to get ripped from you and your loved ones.

The news does not make me sad, it just sharpens my focus on what is important and protects me from those that spew bullshyt in order to get one over on you.

You have a good point.

I just feel like it's been mentally and emotionally stressful reading about how stupid, ignorant and outright evil people can be.

It's like when your mom calls you to complain about your sister. At some point it's like...bytch you gotta call me for something else. Tell me a joke or send me a video of a cat. Otherwise I gotta send this call to voicemail.

There's only so much I can deal with right now.

I understand. With me it has always been disgusting and disturbing how little most people pay attention to what is going on around them, in regards to politics and everything else. Ignorance will always be weaponized and exploited, why do you think they do not want experts making decisions, or want to get rid of fact checking in social media and other things?

Being aware of what is going on can be stressful and depressing but it is extremely necessary, especially in these days. Not having knowledge of what is happening around you and how it can or will effect you is disturbing.

Gonna bump this up for more visibility.

It's looking like the majority does want a thread but let's get a few more votes in before i make it.
