What did “Vince will never allow a crossover star again” mean, and was it foolish?

One thing I’ve seen said around here through the years is we’ll never see a cross over star again like we got with The Rock and Batista because Vince McMahon won’t allow it.

What did that mean? The Rock crossed over because he’s just that charismatic and that talented a human being. For Vince to suffocate that type of natural aura would have been bad for business.

But at the same time, Vince and the WWE fans are not the only ones who could clearly see The Rock’s greatness. So of course Hollywood was gonna call.

I get why an egomaniac and selfish business man like Vince would not want that to happen; he’d want to keep The Rock’s shine to himself and benefit from it himself. But he can’t stop what’s inevitable with a guy like that.

But considering you guys were implying he could and actively was eliminating the possibility of anyone becoming a star outside of WWE, what was he doing exactly to stop that lol?

If a person has sauce, how would Vince stifle them from spreading their wings beyond the WWE nest? What did another Rock never gonna leave to greener pastures if Vince had anything to say about it look like?

And before anyone mentions Cena becoming a star, that’s also after the WWE got absolutely everything they could out of him :pachaha:

Cena became a star in his 40s. That’s late for a guy as talented and likable as he is. Vince worked that nikka like a dog before he finally let him go. Cena prolly threatened to release footage of Vince :pachaha:

Rock left in his prime at the same time Austin retired due to injuries

That left a massive void that didn’t get filled till 2005

Luckily for Vince WWE’s popularity was going down significantly at that time that’s why Cena didn’t become more mainstream till the end of his run

Vince didn’t want to take any chances though & tried to keep people grounded in case they felt bigger then the brand

My problem with this is the 50/50 booking.

If you ain't Cody or Gunther or Rhea, you losing half your matches and never getting consistent promo time.

Current WWE booking is good for stardom, just people talking about how "over" you are, but, if you went to ESPN, no one would know who you are.

Because only a simp like John Cena would allow him to sign 'em to a 360 deal.

If wrestler's was signing Birdman deals :birdman: He wouldn't care.

I think it's obvious.

Rock crossed over to movies and they had to write around him not being involved anymore.

That's a pain and someone controlling like Vince wouldn't want appearances out of his control.

Rock actually played Vince perfectly bc his popularity helped wwe. But now that wrestling is more mainstream, that is not needed
