What are your opinions on social programs?

I think welfare is a double edge sword. Yes it can/may help the less fortunate but it doesn't give them any incentives to help them do better for themselves for the most part. And if they do try to do better they get all their "fundings" snatched right back because in my opinion the government isn't out to "help" the poor as much as it is trying to "control" it.

i agree. my wife and i were talking about what it was like living in gov't housing, otherwise known as the projects, and she was telling me how when her mother was living in philly and would get a raise at work the housing authority would raise her rent, making it impossible to save money to buy a house and actually get out of the projects. gov't programs are suppose to be spring boards that help you get on your feet, instead they make people complacent, always looking to the man to bail them out.
