Denzel Washington is a better actor than SLJ in general, but to answer your question Training Day, Glory, and Malcom X.. Tarantino always writes immaculate characters though.

SLJ as Jules is one of the best performances I have ever seen. Bad enough that he didn't win an Oscar for the role, but the disrespect in putting Travolta as the Best actor nominee and SLJ as the Best Supporting actor was just foul

Training day isnt quite there, but Malcolm x and glory I accept, sure.
Here's a way to look at it:
If denzel performed Jules Winfield, and everything else was identical..same performance....just denzels face...where would it rank all time in his filmography

Training Day is a good movie but i always felt the high praise for Denzel's performance was very overrated compared to some of his other notable roles
I don't want to admit it....but...
Malcolm X homie. Easily. Playing all three facets of him, from red to the guy the young militant to the more introspective peaceful brother. The vocal tone, the presence, the way he embodied that role
Yeah no argument on X from me.
I don't think either one of them have done anything else that good. Sam is great but I can't see him being able to pull that off. But on the flip side I don't think Denzel could've done Jules at least not the way he's written. He wrote the role with Sam in mind
Man on Fire was my favorite of his roles... fukk you and your moms before dissing me
