I think for the most part intelligent people simply view the world differently and think differently than most people. The more you know, the more you have to ponder. Thinking-patterns are different for majority of people compared to truly intelligent people. Intelligent people are able to reason and think logically at a rate that I'm beginning to suspect isn't possible in majority of people. They see through the facade of what the world is, and see it behind all of the smoke and mirrors. Humans have set-up every social system on earth, and therefore all of humanity's problems can be solved by man; people that actually take steps to change the old and establish something new. Intelligent people recognize that, and it is kind of depressing knowing that were everyone on earth intelligent, sane, and not deluded in any way (religion), majority, if not all, of humanity's most crucial problems would be solved rather quickly. I guess some decide to reach as many people as possible with the idea of hopefully planting some type of seed of reason and logic, while some succumb to their depression in the end. I can't say that it's not an understandable circumstance given the powerlessness one can feel when fighting against the majority, but I just hope I never reach that point personally.
