The hook's real power comes from rotation of the body, not the pecs. The pecs' main job in the hook is to hold the upper arm in place.
The jab is more dependent on the pecs' strength, as the arm follows the same motion as when it is performing a bench press.
This was a push press not a bench press.

Weightlifting helps but, it's not JUST weightlifting, it's how you lift weights. If you lift weights in the way that you do quick lifts, then it can help because you are training your fast twitch muscles to do quick snaps with a lot of resistance. The technique goes like this, you lift the weight, then lower it smoothly, hold for around one whole breath so the weight is not that heavy, then push as fast you can while still maintaining form.Repeat the process until you are tired. Keep increasing the weight every week. The power in a punch is how quick you can snap it while being stable, and maintaining strength against the resistance you are punching, not necessarily punching and pushing through. If you watch how mike tyson hit the punching bag, he did quick snaps with all his will. He also used his legs properly. The legs help you keep stable and make use of all that quick energy being released. If you have weak legs, your punches won't be that powerful because you will be moving every time you connect a punch, and that makes the punch not that effective. The same goes for your core muscles, and back muscles.

The other secret is diet. Hint carbohydrates!

I do train, but my real advice would be this: chop wood, lift hay bales; go back to old-school, natural methods of training. My trainer, Archie Moore, he told me to go away and chop trees for two weeks before a fight - and I did and it made all the difference in the world; all the difference to my life. I’d say doing things like that increases you punching power by at least 25-percent - forget lifting weights, that just makes you muscle-bound and takes away your speed. Weights are no good for you, that’s what I say. Go back to nature when you train, that’s what I did.

I think you can implement that same idea with weights. As far as your body is concerned it's lifting weights, but not in the sense of bench press, curls, etc... Functional training like farmers walks, rows and deads. I can't think of any lift that mimics wood chopping though so that's one thing to consider.

Bruce lee swore by the idea of back strength being a big contributor to punching power

I agree that your body wont know the difference, it seems to be high reps + explosiveness is the way to go if you're going to implement weight training into boxing.

Bruce Lee didn't have any verifiable fights though, I'd listen to Shavers on punching power long before him, 74 wins, 68 of them coming by knockout. He wasn't skilled, but if he caught you it could be lights out.
