There's definitely a reason why he's the only coach Payton went above and beyond to keep and yet he's STILL getting teams trying to poach him.
I don't want some situation where he ends up being a top tier D coordinator and we're making "we let Nielsen go and kept DA" posts two years from now.
The good thing is that if do Nielsen does gets promoted. He has a coverage guy to lean on him and help call plays.
But Kris Richard wants a DC job. That's why he sat out. So, I can definitely see a co-DC situation if they decide to promote both of them to playcaller. Ryan probably needs someone with NFL play calling experience to guide the boat.
Kris and Ryan do complement each other pretty well in styles.
