All the top QBs people mention these days spend entirely too much time in shotgun or pistol. This Superbowl was disgusting as the playbook is narrow and the run is not sold for a RB handoff and the primary Run threat is switched to QB. O-Line job has been extremely hard for many teams this decade and it was hard since 2013 when shotgun usage jumped up. And Depending on how far back RB is lined up running routes are limited and RB help in pass protection is limited.

You still got guys like Jared Goff and Kirk Cousins that really play under center at a 75% clip and maximize their talents, maximize RB talents maximize and offensive line talents. It's too much accidental football being played these days.

2000-01 Ravens would have stopped the 2024-25 chiefs from getting out the AFC with the strong front 4 and funneling to the middle.

Philly
2024 Byrdgang got a case for best OL in history

We literally should've had 4 pro bowlers

The best part, 4 of our 5 starters were drafted (1st rd, 2nd rd, 2nd rd and 7th round)...the guy that we didn't draft was a former first rounder considered a bust

Our OL set the tone all season :wow:

TYRONE GA!
I think last night Super Bowl showed you really have to invest in your oline not just keep trying to find a diamond in the rough.
and having a good all around team instead of overpaying mediocre QBs when you need to spread the wealth to all 53. One person (the QB) can only do so much if it makes you mediocre at best at other positions.

Are we? It feels like lineman needs to get more athletic to match the athletism of d-lines

In no other time has the offensive line been asked to do as much in the NFL.

These pistol and shotgun formations lessens the burden on QBs when the looks changes after turning their back...and it can be a crutch with RPO and just reading defensive ends.

Plus these not under center formations takes the RB out of viable pass protection and limits RB in the passing routes they can run. Poor traditional QB play is being hidden these days...I swear most these QBs wait for guys to get open instead of understanding who is open based on route combination and who the defense takes away.

NFL looking like college football 20yrs ago. Offensive line is doing all the work and telling QB just read a certain guy etc.

Mike Vick at VT was under center more than these pro guys today. Mike Vick would be in the goat NFL QB discussion today because he could turn his back and read post snap even though he wasn't seriously into his playbook early NFL career.

There are no Jonathan Ogden, Walter Jones, Willie Roaf, Orlando Pace etc in today's league.

That's fine... Coli sticks their head in the sand for agendas. Formations matter in pass protection and run game. QBs used to be criticized coming out of college not being able to operate primarily under center...

Nothing wrong with more pistol and shotgun. But why over 80% of the snaps across the league? QBs lack of certain skills are being hidden.

The Cowboys offensive lines from 1992-1995 was a nightmare. There's nothing like that today. Most frustrating team to play because they steamroll you and there was nothing you could do. Only way to slow down their offense was forcing turnovers.

It helps that teams keep helping the eagles in other areas. They can invest in a good oline when teams keep giving them deals on other players

At least Tom is willing to speak about it to some degree.

Ryan Clark & Dan Orlovsky & Marcus Spears spoke on it a couple years ago outright...it's hard to find clips of these former pros calling out this stuff.
