I've always had great respect for Red and can't think of a point in my life when I wasn't looking forward to more Redman.

Dare Iz a Darkside was a staple at one point.

However, can't say he was in my top 5. First of all I was young as hell in the 90's. I was 10 years old in '96 and that's around the time I remember consciously listening to/enjoying Hip-Hop/music.

My top 5 was probably:

Pac
Nas
Snoop Doggy Dogg
Ice Cube
Ice-T

With Wu-Tang and Bone Thugs as groups that I obsessed about, but not really for the individual rappers yet (maybe Meth).

Looking back he still wouldn't be in my top 5, but if you told me you had him #1 and he is your GOAT I wouldn't think twice and just accept and totally understand it. I definitely rank Red higher than a lot of the names the Coli likes to float for GOAT.

top tier rapper but not in my top five just because he didn't really evoke any emotion in his songs.

2pac / Biggie / Jeru / Meth / Cube / Nas / Common / Jay etc....they all had songs that made you think or feel a certain way........

Redman was just on some wild shyt....

Yep. At some points, he was my fav overall...

When Whut Thee Album was out, nobody was killin' like he was...

He also went on a crazy run of guest appearances after Darkside where he was tearin' everything up, then Muddy Waters def. had him pretty high up with me...

Also adapted better than most when things started getting a lil' more mainstream in the late-90s, made a lotta dope fun shyt... and was still killin'...

He's actually in my top 5 overall.

Not saying he wasn't a heavy hitter but some other MC's just impacted more in the 90's then Reggie for me...

Ice Cube, Pac, Nas, Biggie, Scarface & Prodigy etc...

But he's top 10 from that era no doubt...

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
He was def one of my favorites.
Pac
Nas
Biggie
DMX(if we can count mid to late 90s)
Bone Thugs(if we can count groups.)
I think Redman landed around number 6. Between him and Prodigy.

not sure I would have named him as top 5 then when Nas, Prodigy, Wu, Biggie, etc were at their best, but I def listened to him like he was top 3. Always bought first day and played the tapes until they broke. Can’t think of anyone whose first four albums were as strong.

He was the most consistent newcomer.
via the only two to three lone member style posse cut feature to full solo artist of the whole era.

What’s cray is I preferred his verse mostly on 4321 in comparison to LL, Bis, Meth, and X.

I also don’t think Canibus verse on Beasts from the East was that much better than Red’s. I know that may seem like an unpopular opinion but :hubie:
