I kinda feel like the younger Roc-a-Fella dudes in the late-90s were doing it first and passed it to Jay... I remember seeing Bleek and Diamonds In Da Ruff and dudes like that doing the Diamond sign first, they seem like some nikkas who were probably watching Nitro every week and then it became the Roc-A-Fella thing.
