Looking back at his and Eddie's title reigns. I don't recall anything memorable with Benoit's stint as champion. I don't even recall him being a focus point of the show(Kinda of like Punk now). It seemed that he played second fiddle to HBK/HHH's bromance feud. He even played second fiddle on a Raw PPV(Bad Blood )while HHH/HBK main evented Hell in the Cell for a hour.

At least Eddie was main eventing and his feud with Jibble and Kurt Angle were memorable

benoit's run was mostly built off the fact that people wanted to see triple h lose BADLy and the fact that benoit was the best wrestling technically in the world at the time, a workhorse who was over just because of his ability rather mic skills. They gave him the rumble win and the build up to mania with both trips and hbk. I didn't think he'd have a long reign, as a face that is, with the top title. Benoit talent wise can carry anyone to a good match but overall, I dont think he was talented enough to be the champion for more then 3 months on the flagship show and essentially be the face of the wwe too long

He got the belt as a reward for working hard for the company and being respected. Kind of like a lifetime achievement award. He wasn't the biggest star and I don't think they ever expected him to be a huge star as the champ.

"Transitional champ" is too harsh a description, but they had bigger plans for other guys (specifically Orton), who they saw as having more star power. Benoit probably knew all this, realized his run would be fairly limited and was probably okay with that.

all of this right here

Eddie on the other hand was an overall talent and they probably wanted to push him years before. Him and Regal should of had at least 2-3 reigns or 1 long reign as wwe champion had it not been for drug use

Benoit was never gonna be the guy to carry the company. However that match was a classic as all three guys were firing on all cylinders.

He wasn't the focus. They held him down for Triple H/Evolution and he was routinely made to look second best. However, looking back after the murders it's hard to hold any sympathy for the guy.

He was one of my favorites in the ring, but now I would rather not think about him period.

He peaked when Haitch tapped out. He'd be a legend if the E went out of business that night on some "happily ever after" type shyt. He's better off chasing.

Cuz you know there's no life after he catches you :to:

Why are you judging Chris Benoit like that everyone said he was a great father and husband, dude lost his mind with all those head injuries. He started writing letters to a dead Eddie Guerro as well as being super paranoid.

When they did the autopsy on him leading to that tragic accident, they said he was suffering from multiple concussions and his brain was totally out of wack, you should watch the documentary special and look at the reports before you pass judgement so quick.

sure it wasnt right, but nor was Chris Benoit.

There's a great documentary about this done by a former wrestler, i will see if i can find it and up it.
