Just got back from seeing this film in IMAX....

THIS fukkING FILM IS INSANE. Alex Garland is 2 for 2 in my book (Civil War and Now Warfare). Warfare is gritty, raw, and relentless. The tension kept me on the edge of my seat the whole movie. And, multiple oh shyt moments. Just like Civil War, they masterfully captured the atmosphere...The backdrop of a war-torn Iraqi town feels so real, breathtaking visuals. There’s this subtle thread of dark comedy woven in to give you a breath… but it barely has an effect. This film is a very brutal and unsexy version of war but this time he is actually focusing on the soldiers... This shyt is brutal it borders on straight-up horror type films. 9-9.5/10

The movie started with a very "wtf am I in the right movie?" scene. Then teases us into 15 mins of brewing tension then boom a big ass bomb explosion and the shyt begins. This movie doesn’t have any big heroic payoffs, just a mission gone sideways, chaos everywhere, and the only goal becomes to survive and get the fukk out alive. Iraqi allies limbs scattered in the streets. Elliott’s guttural screams from his injuries. Too raw.

I was locked in all the way. Sound design went crazy in this one.

Summed up that “but why?” feeling of the Iraq War to a tee. Appreciated how human they portrayed these guys as rather than the typical robot soldier and those lingering shots of shell shock here made things feel all the more real.
