Jim Durham Jim Durham, the sports announcer, died on his northwest Houston, Texas farm on November 4, 2012, at the age of 65. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 12, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Durham and Jean Marquis Durham and his brother, Curt Durham. Durham graduated from Donovan High School, Donovan, Illinois in 1965 and attended Illinois State University, where he worked at the campus radio station. He worked at WJBC in Bloomington, Illinois prior to his 18 year career as the Voice of the Chicago Bulls, with his broadcast partner Johnny "Red" Kerr. Durham also worked for the Chicago White Sox, the Dallas Mavericks, Turner Sports, CBS, NBC, and the Houston Astros on HSE. He called NBA games on ESPN radio since 1996 with his radio broadcast partner, Dr. Jack Ramsay. He was the recipient of the 2011 Curt Gowdy award at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Illinois and was inducted into the Illinois Basketball of Fame; he was the Illinois Sportscaster of the Year in 1979, 1989 and 1990, and won two Chicago Emmy Awards. Durham is survived by his wife, Helen Durham; daughter Traci Gilchrist and son-in-law Jason Gilchrist; son Patrick Durham and daughter-in-law Laurie Durham; son Richard Durham and daughter-in-law Kara Durham; 6 grandchildren, Tyler Giraud, Spencer Giraud, Katlyn Gilchrist, Jaclyn Gilchrist, Nicholas Durham and Mia Durham; sister Sandie Short and sister-in-law Connie Durham. A viewing will be held at Salem Lutheran Church, Old Parish Hall, 16439 Lutheran School Road, Tomball, Texas at 2 P. M. Sunday November 11. A viewing will be held at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 N. State Street, Chicago, Illinois from 9:00 A.M. to 9:45 A.M., Tuesday, November 13, followed by a Memorial Service at 10 A.M., Monsignor Dan Mayall, officiating, with Chaplain Richard Turner of Groves, Texas as homilist. Interment will be held at 2:30 P.M. at Prairie Dell Cemetery, 2546 East 2150 North Road, Iroquois, IL. The cemetery is in Iroquois County, near Watseka, Illinois. Pall Bearers are Chuck Swirsky, Neil Funk, Tim Hallum, Joe O'Neil, Irwin Mandel and Stacy King.
