Vocal arranging and Layering

I'm working on a track that might require some intricate vocal layering and I'm really trying to figure out how to approach this. What are some of the best Vocal arrangements you've heard on an Hiphop/r&b track? What producers do you guys use as reference points?

It's an uptempo song and in the chorus it requires the background come in out almost like a call and response. I also want it to sound smooth, full and the harmonies to have warmth too it. Kinda like how David Foster did Brandy's vocals at the beginning of "have you ever". That phased sound you know?
