Viewer Demand Was Extremely High For Daredevil TV Series (Article)

When Netflix executives decided to cancel the Marvel series Daredevil they turned a blind eye to viewer demand.
That’s evident in the latest numbers from Parrot Analytics which reveal that Daredevil ranked fourth last week in viewer demand among all digital originals in the United States across all streaming platforms.
Demand for the sightless superhero series was surpassed only by three shows (Narcos, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Stranger Things, all from Netflix) during the week ending Dec. 1, the chart shows. The chart measures “desire, engagement and viewership” with weighted values that, for example, would give heft to the total “likes” a show accumulates but not as much weight as the total number of actual viewings.
Daredevil, which was cancelled on Nov. 29, finished the month’s final week with close to 30 million demand expressions. It finished ahead of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale as well as Netflix peers like The Last Kingdom, House of Cards and Orange is the New Black.
The Third Season of Daredevil was released in October to upbeat reviews but the critical judgments being made at Netflix were more about corporate realities than creative achievements.
While Netflix ponied up for production costs for the Marvel shows the streaming service had zero ownership stake in the IP. That limited upside was acceptable until Marvel’s parent, Disney, announced next year’s launch of Disney+, a direct rival to Netflix that will have Marvel Studios content as a flagship in its formidable armada.
Disney will also be withdrawing its past and present content from Netflix in the months ahead. That effectively reduced the Marvel shows on Netflix to the corporate equivalent of refugees.
Two Marvel shows (Iron Fist, Luke Cage) were canceled before Daredevil but two others in their off-season remain (Jessica Jones, The Punisher). The Daredevil character has far more comic book history and pedigree than the other Netflix heroes and Marvel has already indicated that he won’t be left on a shelf for long.

Oh that’s definitely it.... and my point is why don’t they just go ahead and cancel JJ and Punisher and everyone can about their way!
Like we now know they gonna cancel those 2, so why wait a month after they air to make the announcements?
Cut the loss and move on..... give us that Alternate Carbon S2 or something

You think the Mouse is going to want to that kind of violence on its stream. Daredevil and Punisher better start practicing their comedy and Jessica Jones is going to be addicted tea.
I genuinely don't understand how this isn't plainly obvious to everyone involved. Netflix don't want to create more amazing content for Marvel/Disney and dropped the shyt. Why continue to put effort towards the building the brand equity of your eventual competition?Seems like they just wanted to cut ties with disney/marvel

I read this yesterday, but something about it didn't sit right with me. It was this line in particular:

It's real easy to double tap or click to 'like' something but actually sitting down and watching it should mean more, no?
Based on that study the article could have easily been titled 'More People Thought About Watching and Liked the Idea of Daredevil Existing than People Who Actually Watched'

It's real easy to double tap or click to 'like' something but actually sitting down and watching it should mean more, no?
Based on that study the article could have easily been titled 'More People Thought About Watching and Liked the Idea of Daredevil Existing than People Who Actually Watched'

But still I really just wish that NF would keep that same energy and announce they not gonna bring back or are cancelling the remaining shows.
Like I think everyone understands it and over the initial shock. I think the next stage is to just plan on what to do with the cancelled shows or where to place them (hopefully Hulu) so just cancel them all now so Marvel cats can just put focus on the entirety of that and so the NF folks can not focus about the marketing or etc it’s gonna take to launch the other ones.
Everyone should just respectfully walk away from each other.
