Welterweight contender Victor Ortiz (30-5-2, 23KOs) is hungry to get in the ring again with Andre Berto (30-3, 23KOs). In 2011, the two boxers exchanged knockdowns with Ortiz winning a 'Fight of The Year' unanimous decision to capture the WBC welterweight title and handed Berto his first career defeat.
Both fighters have suffered several defeats since their meeting four years ago. Ortiz snapped a three fight losing streak in December with a TKO in three over Manuel Perez. Berto himself snapped a two fight losing streak last September with a decision over Steve Upsher and this past Saturday he knocked out Josesito Lopez in six.
The Berto-Lopez bout was viewed by some as an 'eliminator' to get Ortiz in the ring. Lopez broke Ortiz's jaw and stopped him in 2012.
A Berto-Ortiz rematch was actually scheduled in 2012, but canceled after Berto tested positive for a banned substance in a pre-fight drug test. Berto was later cleared after VADA [Voluntary Anti Drug Association] determined that Berto did not intentionally take anything and it was highly likely that something he ingested was "contaminated" with the substance.
Following Berto's win over Lopez, Ortiz posted the below photo on the social networks with the following message - "Can't wait to beat that ass again!!!!."
