A LOT of people gas up Vegeta as well not just Goku. Matter of fact, it was the fan base that saved Vegeta. Akira Toriyama hated that nikka and set him up to be a short lived character but fans forced him to keep him around.

Many people I thought that should have surpassed Goku became backseat riding nikkas to him anyway.
