Some of
Anne Rice's books have already been translated to the big screen, but it looks like more adaptations are on the way. Universal Pictures has acquired movie rights for The Vampire Chronicles series by Rice for Brian Grazer and Imagine Entertainment.
Alex Kurtzman and
Roberto Orci (Transformers, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Star Trek) will have producer roles, and Bobby Cohen is on board as executive producer, according to
Variety.
The Vampire Chronicles series includes 10 books with an eleventh coming this fall. Rice has been publishing the series since 1976, and it includes the following titles:
Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, The
Queen of the Damned, The
Tale of the Body Thief, Memnoch the Devil, The Vampire Armand, Merrick, Blood and Gold, Blackwood Farm, and Blood Canticle. The eleventh title, Prince Lestat, will be released in October.
The series centers around the vampire
Lestat de Lioncourt. He was played by Tom Cruise in 1994's Interview with the Vampire and by Stuart Townsend in 2002's Queen of the Damned.
Anne Rice's son Christopher Rice has already adapted a screenplay for Tale of the Body Thief, and it was included in the deal. That will be a fresh adaptation, but it's unclear whether Universal will release their own spin on movies like Queen of the Damned and Interview with the Vampire.
