Open Container Law

Maryland has an open container law. It is illegal to have opened alcoholic beverages in the passenger areas of a vehicle while it is being driven. Be aware that "passenger area" includes all areas of the vehicle - the driver's seat, and the front and rear passenger seats. There are no exceptions to this rule - it is always illegal to have an open container of alcoholic beverage in the car while you are driving.

This means:

• anyone riding in the car is not allowed to drink alcohol
• any alcohol you are carrying in the vehicle must be in either a sealed or never-opened container

DID YOU KNOW? - A six pack of beer with one or two beers missing can be considered an open container if it is in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
