Maybe you're thinking of how the Moon is slowing our rotation down due to tidal friction. Eventually (billions of years into the future) the length of a day and month will be equal. The Moon is getting farther and farther away from our planet as this occurs due to the exchange of the Earth's rotational momentum to the Moon's orbital momentum.
right on. perhaps i was thinking about the tilt of the axis or something. i could have sworn that earthquakes or some other natural occurence could slow down the earth's rotation though. i'll have to look into it now.
