It's a 48-hour work week, pays only £23,000-£24,000 ($35,000 to $37,000) a year, but it's a live-in position and meals are provided.
Britain's royal family needs a driver.
To apply, you have to be a U.K. resident and have a driving license. The successful candidate will have a permanent position as the queen's chauffeur, who will drive around members of the royal family, household officials and special guests.
In addition to driving, the employee will keep all the vehicles in pristine condition and contribute to the running and management of the Royal Mews Garage, which looks after all the state vehicles.
The successful applicant can remain "calm under pressure," "have strong attention to detail" and have "excellent communication and interpersonal skills," according to the royal household's online job advert.
"You will be a good team player," it says.
By working in such an exclusive role, a high salary would be expected. This however is not the case. The salary of £23,000 is less than the average UK salary of £26,500 ($40,743), according to the Office for National Statistics.
In addition, the 48-hour week is more than the average working week of 43.6 hours. U.K. law requires that the average employees should not work more than 48 hours a week, unless requested by the employee.
On top of free food and lodgings, the chauffeur will be entitled to 33 vacation days each year, 15 percent employer contribution to the pension plan and the opportunity to work in "a unique and stimulating work environment."
During the selection process, applicants are required to undergo pre-employment checks, including security clearance and reference checking.
The royal household is made up of five departments that help support the royal family with their everyday lives. It employs around 1,200 members in various employment sectors, including catering, art curatorship and media relations.
Considering the advert's timing, the chauffeur will most likely have to start working in April when the Queen turns 89 (on April 21) and the duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, gives birth to her second child.

Pay is pretty good, with free food and a place to live.
You have to drive around and keep up cars. How hard can that be?

It would be okay if you are single. I have no idea what happens when you get married.
I'm pretty sure you would get fired if you got caught jagging your nuts off in one of the royal cars, especially with the Queen in the back seat.

Once you factor in housing/not having to commute it becomes much better paying though

that offsets it definitely.... but If I would apply for the job it would be more for what it would bring me after than what it would bring me....if you know what i mean

you have that you personally worked for the Queen of England on your resume it would put you as one of the top earners in your profession.....

A lot of wealthy people are obsessed with royalty and basically you could write your own cheque for any job after that

Well, London is expensive. But if you live rent free, no utilities (heat, gas, water, electricity) and don't have to pay for food, what kind of expenses are you going to have that isn't going to be covered by your salary. And you should be able to save more than 50% of your income. That's a lot more than someone earning double your income and living in their own apartment.

that pay is below the average London pay....

depending on your circumstances the savings made because of free board and lodging might not necessarily be that great....

Let's say you get $35,000 a year. Then, you get $2916.67 a month gross. After taxes of 20%, you would be netting $2333.33 (you can correct me if I'm wrong). If you don't have food, rent or utilities to pay, what are your monthly expenses? Cell phone bill at the most? You don't really need a car so you aren't going to have a loan, insurance or gasoline expenses. Unless you aren't disciplined with your money and waste it weekly on hoes, liquor, and gambling, then you might not save anything.

There are people who earn $60,000 a year and can't save $100 a month.

let me put it in context.... you could be living at home with your parents never having to pay a penny towards your upkeep on a minimum wage job and live like a king.... but in terms of getting a mortage on your salary it aint happening, in terms of moving out and renting it aint happening....etc..

and thats my point with the job.... thats a job not a career, you can't move forward with that kind of pay as a single person in London..... the best you can do is save as much as possible and then bounce when you want to make forward steps..

you aint getting enough to attract a viable mortgage .... like you said running a car would take a chunk out.....what happens If you want to get married etc...

which is why I said it depends on your circumstances.....

that job is something a person can do for NOW ........ but it offers nothing in terms of a long-lasting career
