This week, as the world attention was abundantly supplied to Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe in yet another well-staged election, Mugabe's follower in Uganda had some plans. President Museveni and his ruling NRM brought to parliament a controversial Public Order Management Bill.

The law known as POMB was passed today Tuesday 6. President Museveni is yet to put his signature on the new law. This law infringes on the constitutional rights to freedom of speech and expression, thought and belief, assembly, association and demonstration.

Civil society organisations have describe the law as a violation of the constitution. Through this law Museveni hopes to effectively curb political opponents as we near another election. A meeting of more than three people will need police permission. The law gives Police and a minister powers to make a public gathering unlawful. Museveni's government has already made it almost impossible for any form protest by citizens in the capital Kampala. This law will be used to control political participation and right to assemble.

This is so backwards. At least it's not like that old law I think in Sierra Leone. It was like your jail sentence was determined by a tree. You got out when it grew large enough. :wow:
