I think part of it is that guys likr Joey and Jason Alexander are set for life so they don't have the drive or the hunger to actually go full balls deep on a project, so they pic some easy roles and when they don't work they chill for a couple of years.

Someone told me to avoid being typecast, try to do movies first. Different roles in different movies, even small movie roles. Its much easier to be typecast if you do television first. It's even more difficult going from to tv star to movie star. Will Smith type success is rare.

Most TV actors aren’t that good. They basically play themselves. Look at Katie Cuoco. She’s trying to restart her career post BBT but she’s not good enough to be more than a dingy girlfriend.
