@TunnelGang I have a question, do you consider this sampling or stealing ?

Came across this beat from producer Ohbliv, for those unfamiliar he's what some would call a lofi producer I guess, similar to Knxwledge. So I came across this beat right here

Now am I tripping or did he literally just pitch the sample up and did nothing else ?

Sample

My question is what is the tunnel's stance on stuff like this ? Madlib is known for doing this as well. Where he basically does nothing with the sample, sometimes he just loops a particular part. I love Madlib btw so this os not a shade thing.

What are your thoughts ?

Lazy as fukk, I think dude just went to his Vinyl Crackle folder and added the grit.
No problem with loops, 99% of my stuff is samples but I always make an effort. The beats I make, even with a straight loop, I'll layer it with a sample from a different track or at least DO SOMETHING with it.

He looped it. So if he didn't go through the proper procedure of clearing it, technically it's stealing. I've done similar shyt.

Hell , rappers delight is basically a loop(s)

in all seriousness i have heard madlib ,alchemist and even dre do this..and many more tracks that i googled the sample and it was a straight loop with drums and maybe a bass added:yeshrug:

that is hip hop at the core, i do chopping, looping or mixture of both in one track. if the sample was cleared for commercial use its all fair, we got multimillionaires who just loop stuff and have some of the biggest hits in hip hop history:yeshrug: it is what is

this new generation of hip hop producers want to go beyond the looping and chopping, where they add, this that and the third and it may sound great but might not hold up to the classic 90s or 2000 tracks that were just loops with drums and bass

its all about whether the people rock with it or not :blessed:

I have no problem with it, finding a dope sample is sometimes all you need.

Before i loop anything i always chop/manipulate it first in some type of way and weigh between the two, if the loop (as is) hits my ears better I role with that:manny:

Could be an issue if it was a well known sample though.

But this I would consider crate digging.

Not every sample needs to be chopped.... When I 1st started I thought I had to chop every damn thing lol.....I loop more nowadays....I usually loop multiple parts of a record and put them together

I still chop tho but not as much

yep, just recently i came to the conclusion that some samples that are well looped with matching drums and a great bass can be just as good as chopping, but its a case to case thing

but again it seems to be frown upon now more than before.....its mostly the white boys though :mjlol::troll:

that's whatt hip hop used to be. It's just a different frame of thought. If it aint broken, don't fix it. If you can loop a classic pitch it up, and make the pitched up version a hit, then by all means. Besides if it ends up being a hit, whoever owns the publishing for the original will be eating, and more than likely they will get more than you bargained for.

I mean....it's sampling. Sometimes you find a good loop and don't have to do much to it. :manny:
