I totally agree that all types of black filmmakers should use Tubi to make different sides of the Black genre. But he's repeating the same tired perspective Roland Martin made. This isn't just Fox trying to destroy the Black community with anti-Black messages. If you watch Tubi original films you will see that's not the case. Tubi original black films are basically Lifetime romance/slasher films. Not hood films.

Secondly he's right these films started blowing up in the 2020's. But totally missed why. It's not b3cause we had BLM and evil Fox corporations wanted to stop it like "Bamboozled". It's because it was pandemic going on and everything was at a standstill. I first started watching these films on Amazon. But then Tubi started to have way more.
People got bored and was looking for stuff to watch. You had stuff like Mcgraw Ave that blew up. Then other Detroit film makers got shine, which led to the Sloppy Seconds.

The real problem is these films are going to the extreme to shock folks. Way too many kids getting killed in these films and getting treated like its nothing. Stuff like that needs to stop. And the clip he kept showing with the bullet actually was a satirical movie making fun of Tubi movies.

And just to add on from a Deteoit perspective. Tubi is like the last resort. Thr big wigs in detroit film, i.e. Dennis Reed III, murda Pain, etc. release in theatres first. They have a movie premiere where they charge like $25, red carpet, etc. Then they sell it on Amazon to buy or rent. And lastly it goes to Tubi
But that's when it's been out like 4 to 6 months.

@Ziggiy what's your opinion on this? Can't anyone upload their movies to Tubi? Is it Tubi's fault that more high art minded black filmmakers aren't uploading their projects to Tubi?

Tubi is the wild west of streamers. You can put almost anything on there.

Its not Tubi’s fault that the majority of black filmmakers want to make “hood” films. It comes down to who watches the content. Entire careers have been made off of Tubi content and thats a good thing. If black people want high-minded content then they should support it in DROVES when it comes out. As it stands most filmmakers aren’t going to make something they don’t think people will watch. Filmmaking is a business and the black audience has a say in what THEY support. Black people supported blacksploitation at a time when the studios had a major say over the content that was made and distributed. Tubi is the great equalizer, any content creator right now can make a film as long as it meets certain TECHNOLOGICAL requirements, it can be distributed on the platform. We can’t as a community complain about Tubi literally allowing black people to make what they want and somehow some way the same shyt ends up popular.

All facts. I'll rep when I can.

We have to get out of this mindset of believing that there is always an evil force making people consume certain things. In rare instances, that can be the case, but in most instances it is very clear that:

Something is presented -> consumers watch it en masse -> more of the same is made/presented

Something is presented -> consumers ignore that content -> less of that content is made/presented

Especially in this case, where the content is mostly user generated.

For me, the larger issue is that black content creators who are willing to present lowest common denominator content have more energy and passion (and hustle) than people who want the opposite.

The people who want better content tend to complain more and create less, while the people who make "bad" content have unrelenting motivation and drive, and can churn out their shyt like clockwork.

Above the fray.
Lot of the consumers of Tubi-spoitation are non-Blacks. Blaxploitation era films didn't generate all that money just because Black audiences were watching them.

Having a hard time understanding what he means by "co opted"

Black folks got all this erudition and perspective when talking about racism but when it's time to talk about our contribution to the bullshyt nikkas start juelzing

The reason Tubi is poppin with hood soap opera shyt is because there is a demand for it. These movies are getting watched and nikkas are getting paid. This is just like how nikkas treat Sexy Red like some government operative plant when black folks elevated and love Sexy Red's music

Respect to the creator because the vid is a good essay, but he's beating around the bush trying to make it look like black folks are being force fed cheap hood soap opera movies shot on Iphones

In the first two minutes he says that projects in Blaxploitation era were self funded. That's wrong and I turned the rest of the video off.
Melvin Van Peebles made a self funded project, and got support from Black celebs and organizations to complete it. It was a very successful film, but the films that followed were funded and distributed by the Hollywood studios. They got small budgets and had good returns. Which is why the studios were rushing them out like an assembly plant.

Precisely

One of the worst things about amateur critiques of industries is they are often done by people who refuse to do a little research into how those industries work.

Which is why outsiders have nothing but conspiracy theories and ideas about how things operate that just stretch further and further away from the truth.

And instead of simply understanding what you said in bold, people will make whole video essays based on how they feel, and not based on how things really are or were.

And like @O.Red and @010101 said, the real issue here is the fact that most human beings, unfortunately, like, support, prop up and engage in the worst, easiest to consume BS.

Tubi ain't the opps. Shyt, even the people who make that content aren't the opps. The opps are the consumers. The opps are your cousin, your dad, your boy and your aunt who are watching, liking, memeing and sharing that low vibrational shyt.

Whether or not the Good Times cartoon reboot airs or gets scrapped will be a good test to see just where modern audiences are about what's acceptable.
