Melvin Van Peebles made a self funded projected, and got support from Black celebs and organizations to complete it. It was a very successful film, but the films that followed were funded and distributed by the Hollywood studios. They got small budgets and had good returns. Which is why the studios were rushing them out like an assembly plant.

One of the worst things about amateur critiques of industries is they are often done by people who refuse to do a little research into how those industries work.
Which is why outsiders have nothing but conspiracy theories and ideas about how things operate that just stretch further and further away from the truth.
And instead of simply understanding what you said in bold, people will make whole video essays based on how they feel, and not based on how things really are or were.
