thats because we are in the participation trophy "You deserve it!" culture era of wrestling fandom where people think getting booked is about taking turns instead of who will sell tickets. Same people who bust out their stopwatches and time the women's matches

To be honest, the IWC has been about that for as long as I remember. It's just that now is more prominent because a huge portion of the wrestling fandom that engages with it on social media is part of the IWC, so the cries for meritocracy -based on artistic performance over anything else- are louder/more prominent.
