The McMahons, specifically Vince, have long been obsessed with being seen as more than wrestling promoters, who are more or less just glorified carnies. This is why Vince has tried and failed to break out into various side ventures such as the World Bodybuilding Federation, the XFL, WWE Films and a bunch of other shyt I'm probably forgetting. He probably thought that politics would be his family's best chance at legitimacy(even though Shane's running a fairly successful media on demand company in China but that doesn't count for some reason), but he couldn't run because when you're a senile cokehead who is probably the second closest thing to an Ayn Rand character existing in reality(Steve Jobs being the first), you can't win elections. So he threw Linda out to the wolves who feasted and threw her bones into the bushes.
Honestly, though Vince shoulda run. At least the debates would've been fun.
