Toriyama was cold blooded and did Gohan dirty during the Boo saga.

If you pay attention there is a reoccurring trend that happens during the Boo saga where Gohan constantly gets screwed over and never gets his much needed/deserved revenge.


Vegeta:
At the start of the Boo saga, a rivalry between Gohan and Vegeta seemed like it was starting to form. Vegeta would constantly rip Gohan for slacking off and wondered if he could take him now. The hype started to get real when Vegeta tells him he will sign up for the World Tournament just so he could fight him. Unfortunately, Goku butts his way back into the series and faces Vegeta instead, leaving Gohan high and dry.


Spopovich:
During the World Tournament, Gohan's future baby mama (Videl) catches the fade of all fades from Spopovich. Gohan vows to avenge her, only to end up getting held down and literally penetrated by Spopovich and Yamu all the while Videl and his friends/family watches. To make matters even worse he doesn't get the chance to kill Spopovich, Bobbidi does.


Dabra:
Once inside of Bobbidi's spaceship, Gohan faces the Demon King Dabra and the fight is so unimportant that it gets interrupted for Goku and Vegeta's long awaited rematch. Later, when Bobbidi asks Dabra if he could handle Gohan, he calls him . Before they can finish there fight, Dabra is killed....by Fat Boo.


Majin Boo:
Once Fat Boo is released from his coc00n, Gohan gets slumped with the quickness. After Old Kaioshin unlocks his potential, Gohan beats the breaks off of Super Boo but before he can finish him, Toriyama pulls absorption out of his ass and Gohan is once again getting stomped out. Incomes Goku, who not only lets him die on Earth but also steals the kill thus officially taking the torch back from Gohan.

This is exactly what happened. If it looks like Gohan's importance was trumped to give spotlight to Goku it's because that's LITERALLY what happened. Gohan's was set up to be the main character and hero of the Boo Saga and Goku was meant to stay dead.



I still don't know why people are such fans of Vegeta though. How many times does this guy have to get his ass kicked for everybody to realize that he's nothing more than overinflated ego? He's a walking, breathing L. Also add the fact that when Kid Buu destroyed the Earth Goku could have saved Gohan could have used his help with Vegeta to stop Buu... but instead Goku saved Hercule leaving Gohan to die

That's actually false. Toriyama said that he just felt like Gohan wouldn't cut it as a hero and just decided to go with Goku.
