The road to the Super Bowl goes through Lambeau. The Packers sowed up the #1 seed with another 13-3 season in Matt LaFleur's second season as HC.
Aaron Rodgers at 37 years young has had perhaps the greatest season a QB could have in NFL history. It is also impressive considering how the Packers don't have top flight weapons outside of Davante Adams and Aaron Jones. However, despite the loss of David Bakhtiari, the Packers have as formidable an offensive line as there is in the NFL with all-stars Elgton Jenkins and Corey Linsley at guard and center. Which will make the matchup with Defensive MVP Aaron Donald all the more interesting in the trenches. The Packers lost all pro LT David Bakhtiari to injury. So, Billy Turner will be playing LT.
The Rams offense has had its share of struggles of late. Jared Goff is playing QB with no thumb on his throwing hand. Another week to heal will help but with snow in the forecast Friday and temps in the 20s forecasted for Saturday afternoon, handling the ball and dishing out passes will be a challenge. Rams rookie RB Akers will be leaned on once again against a Packers defense led by coordinator Mike PETTINE who for all intents and purposes is probably the worst defensive coordinator coaching in these playoffs. He consistently plays dime packages and has his CBs playing off coverage. If Goff is going to be successful, it'll be because of the looks Pettine gives him. Rams WRs Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods will have their opportunities if Jaire Alexander and Kevin King are playing off coverage.
Despite that, Packers safeties Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage have had fantastic December performances. Z'Darius Smith remains a potent sack master and 2nd year man Rashan Gary has emerged as a better player than Preston Smith. Kenny Clark remains an all-pro at NT and the recent acquisiton of Snacks Harrison may help the Packers run defense.
The chess match has begun. The Tundra will be frozen. There'll be 6,000 Packers fans cheering on.
Aaron Rodgers has NEVER played an NFC Championship game at home. The last time the Packers hosted the NFCCG was in 2007 when Rodgers was in his 3rd season as Brett Favre's backup and the ending to that season was Favre throwing an INT in overtime to the NY Giants that vaulted them into the Super Bowl and eventually a win over the perfect Patriots.
