top 5/10 Jay track. First heard in 7th grade, used to read the lyrics in the HKL booklet as a child. That was Jay at his best to me, voice wise, and content.

it is a perfect record beginning to end and what's wild is that hov has a few of those in the stash. those perfect records. easily a top 10 for him

i wish they prioritized doing a video for this though i understand from a business standpoint that you do not put major dollars behind pushing this record. but just artistically what would it would have meant for hip hop i just wish. that video would have been crack

i agree it's an incredible record.

But you know what doesnt get the praise it deserves from that album? Coming of Age the sequel. The story (the "big guy" sensing jealousy possible reprisal from the young guy), the clever lines ("My shirt softer than my next door neighbor"), the internal monologue ("I dont know if it's the chips or we dividing the loot..")., the emotions (look at that fake smile he just gave me, it's breaking my heart). That shyt was incredible. I felt both characters. I even felt Bleek's disgruntled character (They had me thinking I'm the one who moved the stuff, while he trying around town in brand new coupes in stuff).

That song is tough.

Jay-Z actually said in Decoded that he and Bleek really did have friction in '97 and that the song was basically their conflict but put in drug game terms.
