To those who watched Fresh Prince when it was on air....

I'm a big Fresh Prince fan, so I'm curious to know, to you older folks, how big of a show was it on the air when it came on? Yall remember what day of the week it came on? Was it the talk of TV? How much of an effect did it have on society? etc


This is all pre social media. I am old enough to remember life before social media and dial up internet and there was just a different buzz to life back then.

Yeah, it was big. I remember it being appointment viewing in my household. The "very special" message type episodes were always heavily promoted with this sad dramatic ass music in the background...

I think everyone knew big Will was gonna be a big actor. Like the why don't he love me man episode you could tell he could act his ass off even tho it was also true to life for him

Yup, came on Mondays at 8pm I believe. Definitely was a popular show to talk about in school the next day

it wasnt as big as friends/seinfeld but it was still big.... more of a kids show

I wouldn't say kids but more of a teen show like 16-22 year old demographic. Whereas friends was catered to the 20 to 30 crowds and seinfield more for the 30+ year olds.

Coincided with the Black male sexual pinnacle identity takeover. coincided with NBA, Love Connection appearances, and NYC Rap swagsters. It was number 1 but of course the smallh@ts had to reel it in and suppress it to a degree. Those were good times and got Black American (men primarily) masculinity that GLOBAL rep in a positive light. Would even have non-American blks saying they're from the states.

It's crazy bc I didn't like it much when it was new but once it hit syndication I watched almost every day.
