Amazon MGM is developing a movie about Tiger Woods, with Barack and Michelle Obama’s company Higher Ground in talks to produce.

Based on Kevin Cook’s book “The Tiger Slam: The Inside Story of the Greatest Golf Ever Played,” the biographical drama will chart the rise of the child prodigy turned golf star. “King Richard” filmmaker Reinaldo Marcus Green is attached to direct.

Taking inspiration from the book’s moniker, the film is expected to focus on Woods’ triumph of winning four consecutive major championships, known as the “Tiger Slam.” After turning pro at age 20 in 1996, Woods became one of the most recognizable golfers of all time. He has 15 major championship wins to his name, including 82 PGA Tour victories.

His life off the green, though rife with drama, reportedly won’t be depicted in the film. In 2009, Woods fell from grace after numerous extramarital affairs came to light. As part of the fallout, companies such as Accenture, AT&T, Gatorade and General Motors ended sponsorship deals with Woods. He was arrested in 2017 for driving under the influence and survived a serious car accident in 2021, though he sustained multiple leg injuries. He took a hiatus from golf but eventually returned and won his first major tournament in 11 years at the 2019 Masters.

Popular on Variety

The story of Woods has been documented in HBO’s two-part series “Tiger,” which aired in 2021. The documentary, based on the 2018 book Tiger Woods by Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyian, examined the star athlete’s rise, fall and return in the world of golf. Variety’s Dan D’Addario praised “Tiger” for crafting a “compelling case for its subject as intriguing even after the reams of coverage he’s generated.”

Though the timeline on the Woods biopic is unclear, the news comes as Amazon MGM reaffirmed its desire to increase its investment in film. The studio recently shared plans to release 12 to 14 movies theatrically in 2026.

Nah. They'll say in the ending credits, "Tiger continues to inspire". :dead:

That was a time for sensational fukkery..... the Cablanasian Tiger smashing a roster of white chicks and wife put the FAFO bat or golf club hands on him in the home 🏡 driveway.

An incredible man, an incredible story.
I don't really get down with the people that clown him for his personal life, or try to clown him I should say.
His vice is c*nt. Not the first man in the world to be humbled by the consequencs it brings, and he won't be the last.
I've watched thousands of hours of golf in my life because of him, but really I've watched thousands of hours of him. I haven't watched a single stroke of play no homo in any tournament he wasn't in.
His 97 Masters, his 19 Masters, and his 2008 US Open could all each be 3-4 hour movie adaptations or documentaries, and they still wouldn't tell the full story or capture the energy of what it was like to watch this man during those times.
I've never seen a professional athlete be so head and shoulders above the competition like Tiger in his prime. Once in a lifetime experience, sorry to all who missed it or caught it but didn't understand what was happening live.

Biopics tend to be very hit or miss in terms of success.

It’s more about the story and less about how big you were in your day.
