I've been doing PHAT for about 8 weeks....killing it, feeling/looking great.

Would like to cut some flab though and have heard good things about HIIT style workouts.

Would a routine consisting of the PHAT power days and 3 HIIT (10x10 @ 50% 10RM) be counterproductive in anyway? I'm not concerned about the energy/overworking....always feel fine even after crazy workout days

But I feel like I might be trying to do many things at once....:yeshrug:

Thoughts?

1 way ticket to snap city. You'd never recover from the 10x10 and failure to do the power workouts with that volume.

I'd keep lifting PHAT as is or even add a bit more volume. If you want more intensity at the gym you can use supersets to your advantage. Less rest times, harder reps, more of a cardio effect while training. Like you I wanted to improve conditioning but continue to build strength/mass so I recently switched from PHAT to a more advanced westside 4 skinny b*stards routine recently and added in some crossfit wod work at the end as finishers and my conditioning has improved 100x over what it was during PHAT.

For what its worth PHAT at its heart is a westside routine and is already blend of a power/hit routine, the volume is adjusted to that level for that reason. Rest/recovery is a bodybuilder & athletes best friend, imo doing a full power routine on top of a full true hit routine is counterproductive since you need to reach full muscle fatigue and failure to get the full effect of HIT training. PHAT is designed to avoid failure so you can power lift but still give you the hypertrophy benefits of muscle pump and endurance.

Some other issues arise by going to 10x10 HIT w/PHAT is that you would most likely be using machines and you'd miss out on the development of stability muscles as well as disregard the aspect of explosive strength (dynamic/speed).
