This video popped up on the YouTube feed. This 91 year old super old head says that modern dysfunctions in black culture in the ghetto come directly from old school outlaw redneck cracker culture.

This argument doesn’t make too much sense to me. :jbhmm:He completely ignores the fact that black folks moved to the cities to work in factories. Factories that shutdown in the 70’s, 80’s and later on. He also ignores the fact that black folks bought houses and new cars in these cities at the time and nuclear family structure was the norm in the black community back then. And ignores the fact that drugs from Mexico, Afghanistan and Colombia along with tons of guns magically appeared in every ghetto in America in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s getting worse with every passing decade up until the 90’s and some places to this day. And that the welfare system and Section 8 destroyed the family unit. They call public housing the projects because it’s basically a population control experiment. Truth hiding in plain sight. He also ignores that dysfunctional fukking your sister shoot everything in sight and don’t know how to read cracker culture is still alive and well in huge swaths of the country (i.e. Appalachia). Dude sounds like Uncle Ruckus to me. :scust:

Above the fray.
Is this an audiobook reading? From which book?

It's painful to read or hear Sowell because he ducks/dodges plain site answers, like OP says. He drives into made up scenarios and narratives to fit whatever he's trying to say.
I've been trying to figure out his angle for years now.

It's from "Black Rednecks and White Liberals". Excellent read/listen.
There isn't much of an angle to him. He's a black conservative, free market proponent. 90% of his views are on point. The remaining 10% he goes off the deep and crazy end especially with his hatred and jealousy of Obama.

He bit from a guy who wrote a book called Cracker Culture. It was an analysis of Southern white culture in the old South and how it was created from the less developed parts of northern England, Scotland and Ireland.

How he connected that Cracker culture to black culture so completely is flawed at best and straight up deception at worst.

Dysfunction in certain classes of black America are more a function of racially oppressive system way more than Cracker Culture bleeding into black culture.

Thomas Sowell disregards 350 years of slavery and Jim Crow to make his argument so he get a pat on the head from his conservative paymasters.

Ok thanks
Anne Coulter has made comments about redneck culture and modern day hood culture, so apparently there's a common playbook and script that is being used. She got back on my radar when she inserted herself into the current justice claim discussion during election 2020. *

The things I've read, I see Sowell as being 40% off the deep end and disingenuous. At some point, a person loses credibility for saying things that don't add up or are supported by the facts

*Not surprisingly, her pumpfake support of the claim was for political convenience, to bang on the Democratic candidates. And since I mentioned reading from the same script, not surprisingly....she used a tweet from Sowell to mock the claim & reveal the pumpfake

Y’all can’t seem to make up your minds. Is it the result of slavery or as another poster said, welfare programs in the 1960s?

I grew up in southwest GA. Broke white folks were still white enough to thumb their noses at us.
Same in South Central Louisiana. Some poor white folks that live in black neighborhoods assimilate because of proximity but also plenty of seperated Poor White MAGA Confederate flag flying black people hating communties
