STEVE UPSHER CHAMBERS DISCUSSES ANDRE BERTO CLASH: "I THINK I WILL BE THE FASTER FIGHTER"
By Percy Crawford | August 21, 2014

PC: Congratulations on securing the fight with Andre Berto. When did you find out that you were the one that got the fight?

SUC: It was about two days ago when I got the actual confirmation. I heard that certain people dropped out of the runnings for it. When I first heard about it 3 to 4 weeks ago, it gave me something to look forward to. I was training, but it was hard. People say you stay ready no matter what, but it's a different intensity when you know you have a fight coming up. So I just put it in my head that I had this fight coming up and they confirmed it two days ago that it was me. It was exciting. I was actually shocked that I got the fight because my luck in boxing, I would say the last 3 years haven't been the best. So I was really shocked that I got the opportunity.

PC: You haven't had a fight yet this year. Has it been just that, tough to get motivated to train, or have you picked it up a notch when your name was in the runnings?

SUC: Actually, I had a couple of fights fall out that I was gonna do locally, so I was training and then I would have to let off and then train and let off, and it got kind of redundant. But I was in camp with my good friend, he's actually more like a brother, Rod Salka. I was in camp with him helping him out, and actually before that, Paul Spadafora was in camp and I was in the gym training with him too. I was in the gym, but the intensity...I can't even say picked up really even then, but it picked up when I first heard about this fight being a possibility. Now it's just basically maintenance work now. If you ain't in shape by now, it's at that point where you ain't gonna get in shape.

PC: On record, you don't look like a big puncher, so obviously they are trying to keep Berto away from guys that are perceived to be punchers. Do you feel that's why you were picked for this fight?

SUC: Yeah, but everybody that has fought me know I can crack a little bit. It's not like Golovkin power, but it's enough to where if I crack you, it's enough to wobble you and get you out of there. I didn't have a bunch of guys taking fights with me on 2-days notice like the guys coming up or I would have 18 knockouts. If I had them soft touches, I would have a good knockout ratio. And I'm not saying that I fought all killers, but if you look at my record, I have fought guys that maybe didn't have the best record, but they were from Philly and I knew they could fight because I seen them spar in the gym before or sparred them in the gym before. I knew they could fight and that they were gonna be up for the fight because of me being from Pittsburgh and living in Philly and being known as a Philly fighter now; the Philly fighters want to beat me. They coming with their A game; on top of that, they know they are fighting me for a month or a month and a half, so it's gonna be hard to get a guy out of there like that. They're good; no matter what their record says, they can fight and they have beat people that were undefeated. But I didn't have all of these soft touches of bringing guys in on one-day notice from wherever or going to the Dominican Republic and getting a couple of wins in. I have heard of people doing that. I've never known people to do that, but I've heard people say that guys do that.

PC: What do you think of Andre Berto as an opponent and do you see things you can exploit?

SUC: I have always been a fan of Andre Berto. Me and my brother Eddie, we always used to be like, "Yeah, he a beast! He sharp as hell!" Never did I think I would see the day that I would be fighting him. And now, the day is here. He is a great, sharp fighter and I'm looking forward to a great fight. I look forward to using my height and reach advantage and, believe it or not, I don't know how people rate my speed or whatever, but I think I will be the faster fighter as far as continuous speed; not just one or two short punches. I can throw 3, 4 and 5-punch combinations with something in 'em and they are fast. That's something I haven't seen him do, and if he does do it, he doesn't do it a lot. It's a tough fight and people are saying Berto is not the same or Berto is that; man, that motherfukker can fight. I don't care what anybody says, it's still Andre Berto and he can fight. This is sort of what they are calling a crossroads fight, moreso for him because people don't really expect me to win. They expect him to win because he is Andre Berto and he has the name. He knows that if he loses to me, it's pretty much a wrap for him. He's gonna come in with everything he has that night. And really, in all of his fights, you have never really seen Berto quit. He has the heart of a lion and a two-time champion. I don't buy into any of that people saying he's done and all that. Man, I'm training for the best Andre Berto that there is.

PC: Berto has typically gotten in trouble when he's lured into fighting the wrong fight; mostly rough, inside fighting. You're not really known for that, so do you feel you have to offset his style by giving him something he's not used to seeing and that's to just box?

SUC: I can do it all. I could fight on the inside. I actually prefer that, but my trainers and Rod been telling me I need to use my reach, my fast jab, and movement. They feel I need to get out of the way and use head movement and everything and my boxing skills. They want me to use that more, but I can definitely get into a dog fight. It really isn't conducive for me to do that because I'm not really a 147-pounder at the end of the day. I'm trying to get down to my right weight, but the opportunities are not there at them weights. Nobody jumping up to fight me at 135 or 140, so the only opportunities I'm getting is at 147, and it's not really even at 147; it's at 149. People know that I'm good. They don't really wanna give me the total credit that I deserve, but they want all of the advantages if they are gonna fight me. And I'm okay with that. I'm gonna have to beat somebody under these circumstances and this will be the time that I do it because I'm actually in shape for this mentally, physically, and spiritually. The last 3 fights that I've had, I didn't have no kind of a camp. I would go to the gym sometimes. Like if I couldn't make it to the gym, I would run or go to LA Fitness. I probably had about 20 rounds of sparring the entire time. It just wasn't really right. Most of the fights were just fought off of heart. Like in the Collazo fight, nobody knows it because I was still winning rounds after that, but I was dead tired in the 4th round. I didn't hear anything my brother Eddie or my advisor and trainer at that time, Stephen Edwards, were saying at the end of that 4th round. I remember hoping the ring card girls scorecard said round 5 and when I saw it did, it gave me some relief and I gutted it out and finished it out. But now I know that I won't have to go through that because I'm in great shape.

PC: It's been a long time coming for you. Best of luck and we will talk afterwards. Is there anything you wanna say in closing?

SUC: Everybody tune in to Showtime Championship Boxing to watch "Showtime" put on a performance

Adrien Broner eyes knockout vs. Emmanuel Taylor
August 15, 2014

Adrien Broner will be fighting in his native Cincinnati, Ohio, for the 13th time when he meets Emmanuel Taylor in a 140-pound bout at U.S. Bank Arena on Sept. 6.

A three-division titlist, Broner (28-1, 22 knockouts) has scored stoppages in all but two of his appearances in his native city. During Thursday’s press conference announcing the bout, Broner said it’s his goal to assure that Taylor (18-2, 12 KOs) does not see the bell ending the 12th round.

“I’m more than excited to be back in Cincinnati. It’s like when you spoil a kid – when you buy a kid a new pair of sneakers,” said Broner, 25, via release.

“The next time they come out they are going to expect another pair. Every time I’ve fought at home, I gave my fans a knockout. I spoiled my fan base in Cincinnati. So every time I fight here that’s what they want.”

Broner will headline a card that will also feature RING number one-rated junior welterweight Lucas Matthysse against Roberto Ortiz and two-time titlist Andre Berto against an opponent to be determined.

“It brings tears to my eyes to be here. Without Golden Boy, we couldn’t keep these kids fighting in the ring,” said Mike Stafford, Broner’s trainer. “You see the matches they make and everyone needs to acknowledge what Golden Boy is doing.”

Broner’s last two fights at U.S. Bank Arena were knockouts in the third and fifth rounds over Vicente Martin Rodriguez in November 2011 and Vicente Escobedo in November in July 2012, respectively.

Broner’s two bouts against Eric Ricker in Cincinnati ended in a no contest in December 2008 and a unanimous decision victory in March 2009.

“I have to give them a knockout. I got to and it’s got to be pretty too. I think I’m going to hit him with the 30-piece and the biscuit,” said Broner, whose win over Rodriguez earned WBO’s 130-pound belt.

“I’m going to put on a show like I always do and I’m ready right now. I know Taylor pretty well and I respect him but at the end of the day, he’s my enemy. I have to go out there and get my victory.”

THE RING’s number seven-ranked 140-pounder, Broner is coming off a unanimous decision over Carlos Molina in his junior welterweight debut on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s majority decision over Marcos Maidana in May.

In victory over Molina, Broner bounced back from a unanimous decision loss to Maidana last December, his second 147-pound fight.

“Everyone knows that Adrien Broner is a superstar because of all the things he does in the ring. What makes Adrien so great is that he will fight anyone. He has never turned down an opponent. Few fighters have done what he has in his career. He already has a Hall of Fame career,” said Eric Gomez, vice president and matchmaker for Golden Boy.

“Only one other fighter has jumped from 135 to 147 in the history of boxing and that is Henry Armstrong. That’s the kind of talent we have here in Adrien Broner. Adrien and his team said they wanted to fight in Cincinnati and it was done. You have to give Adrien a big hand for that. Adrien is doing something special for his hometown. Emmanuel Taylor is a tough fighter. He always comes to fight and he is going to be ready on September 6.”

Last month, Taylor, 23, rose from an eighth round knockdown to unanimously decision Karim Mayfield, helping him rebound from February’s unanimous decision loss to current WBO junior welterweight beltholder Chris Algieri.

“I’m definitely an underdog but I can’t tell you my game plan. We just have to go in there and do what we have to do to get a win. I have to beat him really bad to get the win; I know that. I know we’re going up against the odds fighting him in his hometown. I’m going to go in there and fight my fight. That’s what we train hard for,” said Taylor.

“I saw his fight against Maidana and I saw a lot of weaknesses there but that’s not the only way he can be beaten. I definitely can take advantages of his weaknesses but I have some other plans for fighting this guy. I’m definitely looking to make a statement. This is the biggest fight of my career. This is what I’ve been working for my whole life since I was a little kid. It’s my time to make a statement

Lucas Matthysse Fully Focused on Dispatching Ortiz
Posted by: Boxing Clever on 8/15/2014 .

Argentinian Lucas "Machine" Matthysse (35-3, 33KOs) will fight on September 6th in Cincinatti, Ohio, against undefeated WBC silver 140-pound champion Roberto "Massa" Ortiz (31-0-1, 24KOs) of Mexico, and that's currently all that he's got on his mind.

Matthyse is determined to conquer the WBC crown which resides with Ortiz, and this intense Showtime televised contest will be at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati.

"I'm focused on Ortiz and no other challenges. Although I have a winning spirit, I must fully concentrate on this fight. Each bout is different, but I always try to focus only on my next opponent, and then the rest will come. I know that after this fight I could fight for the WBC world title.

"We are working very well, and I'm going to be in a perfect condition to fight. The work to get into top shape has been hard. Roberto Ortiz is a very tough opponent. So we've been preparing well for three weeks," explained the Argentine, who trains at the gym of Aranobox located in the city of Junin.

Lucas will arrive a week before the fight to complete his training in Ohio along with his team: Luis Barrera, Eduardo "Cirujano" Morales, Matias Erbin and medic Eduardo Leguizamón.

Matthysse Discusses Ortiz Fight, Danny Garcia Rematch
Posted by: Ben Jacobs on 8/21/2014 .

By Ben Jacobs

Lucas Matthysse returns to action on September 6 against hard-punching Mexican, Roberto Ortíz in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Argentine last fought in April against John Molina in a thrilling bout in which he emerged victorious via stoppage in round 11. After the bout Matthysse returned to his homeland where he was able to have a good rest with his family before resuming training for his upcoming encounter. BoxingScene was able to talk briefly with Lucas via telephone following a training session during which he revealed that he will be sparring Luis Carlos Abregú as preparations wind down before he travels to the United States.

BoxingScene.com: How much do you know about Roberto Ortíz?

We’ve some seen some videos of him on the internet. You can see that he’s a boxer who punches hard but so do I and I’m preparing well for this new fight. Every fight is a challenge, he hasn’t fought much away from home, I have more experience than him and I’m giving 100% in training to arrive in good shape.

BoxingScene.com: Did you want a bigger fight than this? Possibly a rematch against Danny García?

I respect all my opponents but I think I deserved to have a different rival or be on a bigger show. I’ve just had some hard fights, I lost to Danny García but I think I deserve a big fight. I just train and fight whoever they put in front of me, but yes, I would like a slightly bigger challenge to see where I am at.

BoxingScene.com: What are your thoughts on John Molina looking back at that fight?

He was a very tough rival, we knew we’d have a tough fight, he was strong. I had to come back after the loss to García and I did well. It was important to win to keep having big fights in America. It was a good fight.

I think I was winning, he caught me and I went down but apart from the knockdowns I was doing well. I knew I had to comeback quick because even though I was winning the rounds, the fact that I suffered two knockdowns would make things difficult on the scorecards.

BoxingScene.com: Was he the hardest puncher you have ever faced?

The boxer who hit me the hardest in my career was Humberto Soto, he was the only one whose punches I really felt. Molina caught me and I went down but I didn’t feel his punches too much. Soto punched very hard though.

BoxingScene.com: How do you view the current progress of Danny García?

He just fought with a fighter who is a fourth or fifth level type boxer. He should give [Mauricio] Herrera or me a rematch but it seems like he will now fight Lamont Peterson, so I don’t know what will happen next. He doesn’t seem to want a rematch with me.
I want an important fight, I think I deserve it, maybe a rematch with Peterson if he wins, but we’ll see.

Breh, I really had more pics and videos to drop...but the work computer wont let me load them:snoop:

It's cool though:manny:

I didnt wanna flood The Ring with #BandCamp Banter, so I thought it'll probably be better to post all 9/6 related news (AB vs Taylor, Matthysse vs Ortiz, Berto vs Chambers) in here so that it's not crowding the 1st page.

You upped the ante with the Porter vs Brook thread, AB was coming up so I HAD to step up the stanning:wow:

#BandCamp
