I spent all my life quoting "...with a broken freaking neck" and the actual story is WILD as hell.

Dude won a TOURNAMENT with a broken neck with ppl targeting his broken neck.

DAMN.

I did not know about Brock breaking his neck multiple times in a year, either.

I watched this before Payback. It's 10/10, 5 stars, all of that....Shoutout to his wife was sticking by his crazy ass

Man, listen, I've been meaning to make this thread for a few days. I watched it the other night and my jaw was floored.

This dude REALLY is an American hero. And I don't even use that term lightly. Actually, not even relegating to simply "American", dude is just a hero.

He came in with that goofy "your Olympic hero", "I won with a broken freakin neck", but that sht was REALLY REAL.

Just seeing the actual wrestling clips and the story, dude was a legit badass on a level I was not fully aware of.

Internet back then wasn't as developed as it is now so there was no way for us to see footage from all of his matches like this doc showed. Dudes neck was broke and his opponent was literally yanking at it from the beginning of the match.

I don't know if we've ever seen an athlete any more determined than Angle. Even the Rock and JR showed up for this doc. And y'all know the Rock doesn't do anything like this

I will say, even though it was a serious movie, hearing the cinematic version of his entrance music was :skip: for me cause I kept imagining a choir singing "You Suck" along with it.

Absolutely loved everything that was in the doc but I had some issues with it. I actually thought this should've been a three or four part doc.

Part 1 on everything pre-WWF, including his initial failed WWF negotiations where he fell through because he wasn't down with losing as well as is infamous ECW appearance with the Raven angle where he crucified Sandman which lead to Angle not signing (really surprised that wasn't included).

Part 2 could be focused on his rise in the WWF. I felt there should've been way more appreciation shown to his WWF career. They could've talked about the politics in the locker room that he faced. I get them not wanting to glorify Chris Benoit but IMO it's fukked up to let it effect how they discuss people's careers that involved Benoit. No way in hell should they ignore the run of great matches he had with Benoit and how they were the in-ring standard for the WWF for a while. Also should've put more focus on how versatile he was in the ring to go from wrestling faster paced matches where he was keeping up with Eddie G and Mysterio to more technical matches with Jericho and Benoit, to the WWE main event style with Triple H, Rock, Undertaker, Lesnar, and Austin. Emphasize to the fans who may not be familiar with Angle all the great matches he had during his run and all the great feuds.

Part 3 discussing the drug problems that lead to the WWF ouster and then his rise and fall in TNA. Would be a great time IMO to address the Benoit situation head on. Use this as an opportunity to address the black eye that Benoit's actions had on the business and the affect it had on Angle since he was so closely aligned with Benoit. A great chance to balance any positivity shown from talking about the great Angle/Benoit matches from earlier but discussing the negative with him. Then transition to him going to TNA. This part of the doc pissed me off because they once again breeze past his time there and only speak of TNA in negative terms and like it was some indy promotion or some shyt. They were a legit second promotion and getting Angle was huge at the time and gave them huge credibilty in that regard. He had some classic moments there. Yet in typical WWE fashion can't speak about other promotions in any positive light. Also insane that they didn't discuss the Karen Angle/Jeff Jarrett situation at all considering it being such a high profile and controversial situation. To flat out not mention her at all in the doc just seemed silly to me.

Part 4 being the redemption where it shows him working through the drug problems and overcoming. Then detailing him making his way back to the WWE and eventually making it into the hall of fame.

I only think they should've fleshed it out more because there was just so much more to cover and yet everything in this was so great as is that I wouldn't want them trimming it down at all. And for one of my personal GOATS would've just liked to show even more of what made him great and a more in-depth telling of the in-ring portion of his career.

Redacted ruined a lot of good wrestling discussions and coverage.

Watching this now. Had no idea he actually broke his neck that many times in the ring.

They breezed through his WWE career way too fast though. Maybe he wanted his amateur covered more detailed but I could’ve gone without most of it.

Edit: mentioning TNA and showing TNA footage :leon:
