So I made this instrumental sometime in 2014, and at that time I was really getting serious in learning to EQ my sounds using plug-ins. At first I was amazed at what you can accomplish by doing that, I've done it many times before but never took it seriously. Now it's one of the most essential techniques in any of my tracks, that and compression. But the most important thing to me is to grasp that concept you're trying to achieve, that's always number one. Your welcomed to post your mastered/unmastered tracks, always love to hear different music and even methods that are applied.

all plug-ins turned off in the mix

final mix w/plug-ins

I can hear and understand what youve done to the drums...what did you do to the melody/sample?

N.Be Wildin, good question, I split the sample in two parts, one part to emphasize the highs and used a mid side stereo effect to give it that wide sound and the other part I just pretty much eq'd the highs so the low and mid frequencies can breath and also used a little mid side stereo processing. I used also side chain compression on the sample to bring out the kick drum, and added reel to reel tape efx to give it warmth and distance. I could've had another go at it, since that was last year, but I still think it sounded nice enough...I wonder what it'll sound like run thru a real tape machine, because I have one but just not motivated enough to try it...

Me to breh.
I mix everything while making the beat. Cause if you start using FX afterwards that 1 instruments can start fighting with an other instrument which sounded good together at first. and than an other instrument starts fighting with an other and an other etc... cause of the different FX you trying to use.
So you better use the FX straight while making the beat.
Than afterwards it barely needs adjustments.

You're so rite, I mean I figure if you start mastering on the go, everything can eventually adapt to one another easily....so to speak lol. I still get problems with samples sometimes, and so far it's been a breeze mastering synth and sound effects ....just kinda getting into vocals, that shyt is kinda hard to be honest. .

I can understand why, I mean nothing beats the raw cut I guess (applies to the vinyl only, drums sound dead unmastered, period), and the thing is tho, the unmastered sounds nothing like how it sounds on SCloud.....I made sure all plug-ins were off before exporting and converting to mp3, seems SCloud fukked up on the audio. Not sure what it sounds like on your end but the snaredrum on my end thru SCloud sounds tragic. Yea, I get you on the ears/hearing,

Maybe my ears are trash but I prefer the Un mastered beat

me to breh. I never master my beats. It only fukks up the dynamics and sound of the mixdown.
My Roland MV-8800 had mastering presets on it and VST plugins like Ozone ive tried with mastering presets but NON of them made it sound better. Only worse.

Only bad mixes really need mastering i think.
