Former Philadelphia basketball standout arrested in shooting
FORMER HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL STANDOUT ARRESTED IN NORTH PHILADELPHIA SHOOTING
NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) --
A former high school basketball player has been arrested in connection with a shooting in North Philadelphia.
Twenty-two-year-old Rysheed Jordan, who attended Vaux High School, is charged with attempted murder, robbery and other offenses.
Jordan was also a basketball standout at St. John's University in New York City, and was attempting to turn pro.
The incident occurred during the afternoon of May 27 on the 2400 block of Diamond Street.
Police say Jordan and two other suspects arranged via Facebook to meet three men to sell a cellphone.
During the meeting, police say Jordan and the two other suspects attempted to rob the victims, who fled the scene.
Jordan allegedly shot one victim in the arm.
He was taken into custody around 2 a.m. Wednesday on the 2100 block of North 15th Street.
When initially confronted by officers, police say Jordan attempted to flee on foot, but was captured.
