How about open up the talent pool you are willing to work with.
Scene was terrible cinema. Its damn near impossible for the actor getting beat down to sell the ass whoppin'. Give DeNiro a bat to swing around or something and maybe he catches the shop owner off guard
then he’d look like that random extra with the 2x4 at the refugee camp in the beginning of ‘scarface’

Probably hundreds people on set, in production and so forth watched this scene and ain't tell Scorsese nothing.....thats why alot of great filmmakers fall off.
