(not sure if right sub-forum…)

So I’m thinking of picking up another language, and I’m leaning towards Portuguese. But I have a question: should I pick “Brazilian” Portuguese or “Portuguese” Portuguese? Looking around on the internet I’ve seen that there are classes for both as if they were distinct languages, how different are they? I always assumed it would be like American English and British English, but seemingly it’s more different? Anyone here that speaks Portuguese (either one lol) can help me? I think that I would ultimately like to spend some time in Brazil, but probably go to Portugal first…

Download babbel for your android and get your learn on.

Thanks for the tip but technologically I'm :flabbynsick: got registered on livemocha though

Definitely Brazilian 'Portuguese', might be financial or travel benefits. Nobody cares about Portugal.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too but I was looking for "linguistic" advice, as in is one more complicated than the other, or which one is easier to understand having learned the other...Brazil is an option but not sure, so I don't want to totally rule out Portugal (might still try to get involved in EU affairs).

Lisboa and Porto are beautiful :manny:

Some of my Brazilian brethren lived there and they we're fine...

I guess if you plan on being Brazil learn Brazilian Portugese. I think you'll be fine either way.

South American Spanish and Castilian Spanish aren't the same the dialects and words even changed when I lived in Andalusia and Catalonia . I don't know if it's the same with Portugese.
Only Spanish people know wtf I'm talking about in NY. Don't even get me started on the young girls floating around here.
