Mike Johnson revealed on the PW Insider “Tip Sheet” that he believes The Miz will go over Daniel Bryan at Super Showdown and become the #1 contender to the WWE Title. His rationale is that the WWE is very happy with Bryan’s current role as an “attraction” as has no plans to push him to the main event. Here’s the quote from Johnson:

Daniel Bryan is not getting a big push at the moment and I don’t foresee that changing anytime soon. The company seems very happy having him in his current slot on the SmackDown roster. I expect this will be an entertaining match, as was their SummerSlam bout, but in the end, Miz has the future title shot. I just don’t have the faith in WWE that they will push Bryan harder unless the crowd revolts and demands it, which thus far, we have seen no indication of happening.

If the rumor holds true, it won’t be long before The Miz ascends back to the main event, and the fans may be waiting quite a while before Daniel Bryan sniffs a world title shot.

If AJ retains then the most obvious choice is to give Miz the title shot. If Samoa Joe wins the title (which I don't think will happen btw), it makes more sense to build a Joe/Bryan feud.:yeshrug:

Also, I honestly believe that Vince is smart enough to save AJ vs Bryan for the Smackdown title at Wrestlemania for the marks while some bullshyt like Roman vs HHH 2 will be the main event.

They are all attractions... it’s a TV show and a traveling show :snoop:

If Daniel can sell tickets without a title, why use the other attraction (the title) on him at this moment?

Besides, the long game probably is (or should be) Miz wins the title, DB wins the RR, Miz DB at Wrestlemania with DB going over.

WWE is probably hoping they can leak enough stuff like this that they can reheat him up, get the “smarks” rallying behind him again big, but it’s not going to work.

They should just have him end AJ’s reign (with fukkery if necessary) and then have Miz beat him for the title, to wrap up that angle at this point instead of the reverse.

If true, hopefully it's more of a case that they want to see how he holds up to the grind again, before they think about pulling the trigger on him again. You know the McMahon's have reservations about him as it is, they probably want him to be active on the roster again for a year, before they trust him.

That's what I would have done. Smackdown's title match at Mania is usually the one for "the smarks" and Miz/DB is the one the hardcores want. Doing it the way you suggest would have got Miz back in the main event scene and gave him a decently long reign assuming he won at Crown Jewel or Survivor Series and would have given DB his Rumble win.

But Styles dropping the title at Crown Jewel works too.
