They laughed at Danny Ainge for "hoarding Draft picks", but now look at the modern NBA

- Nets trading Mikal Bridges for 5 draft picks
- Nuggets trading Reggie Jackson for 3 draft picks
- Rockets and Nets made the first ever future draft pick for future draft pick
- Lakers in the JJ Reddikk conference talked about focusing on "developing players"

New CBA sent a message that their aim is to end Superteams. Got all these teams ready to focus more on draft picks and player development

Now every team this offseason is looking for "big two way wings" to fill up their roster

Personally I think it's kind of funny that Thunder GM Sam Presti getting praised for something Danny Ainge been doing for 20+ years :dead:

I like parity.

Let me see 2 good superstar guys or a superstar level guy and an all star level guy surrounded by rotational players.

Makes things more interesting in my opinion.

I agree both Presti and Ainge been on that bandwagon of building through the draft. This will help smaller market teams be more relevant too.

Danny Ainge wasted 4 years of Pierce’s prime not making any moves. It’s forever fukk that nikka.

Danny Ainge put a super team around him in 2008 for him to deliver ONE ring. The Celtics of 1998-2013 were what The Toronto Raptors are in this era.

Stop quoting me, moron.

The 2008 Celtics were picked by every major sporting media & analyst to win ONE ring, which is exactly what they did. Get your bandwagon ass out of my mentions before i put you on ignore.

Nah they laughed at not moving them to go all in on a player....
Two things hurt Ainge.

1) he didn’t want to make improvements on a strong Celtics core
2) he decided it’s better to constantly try to rob people in trades than make the Celtics better

Stevens did the exact opposite of that and they win a championship.

If I remember correctly there was a draft they had like 5 first round picks and everyone was sure they would package them and they took 5 mediocre guys??
stuff like that don't make sense and will get you laughed at of course. Sometimes you can have too many picks especially with such small rosters. At some point you gotta get yourself higher up in a couple drafts to get a shot at a superstar or trade 4 of them for a star.
Can't just draft two guys in the teens every year.

Yeah, he hoarded picks and then did nothing with them. :skip:

Presti is doing a very similar thing right now.

I mean, you see it's effectiveness in the NFL. Future draft picks are a treasure if you have a good acumen for measuring your team and the league's state.

At the end of the day though, you still need to hit on your picks. Your scouting team just has more leeway, but if they miss then you basically give up good players and assets for free.

Rams got an overhaul for RG3 but did nothing with it. All their star players were with the draft picks they would've had in the first place. Although I guess you can say how mid they were to land Aaron Donald had something to do with the overhaul.

That was 2016

Had 3 FRPs and like 4-5 SRPs but only had like 2 or 3 open roster spots and one of them was reserved for Horford

Took Jaylen Brown with one of the firsts but Ainge couldn’t consolidate the other two so had to reach on two draft and stash players since there just wasn’t a spot on the team. And calling them mediocre is putting it nice both only lasted 2-3 years in the league and were sent back to Europe

Was able to move a couple of the 2nds but the ones they kept didn’t amount to anything either

Thank god Jaylen panned out or that night would’ve been a complete disaster :snoop:

Did you forget the Rick Pitino era??

Pitino destroyed the entire Celtics organization the time he was there

I give Danny credit for being hired in 2003, undoing all the mess Pitino caused, and getting a championship roster in 4 years in 2007

This. Anyone who was around knew players kept going on the market and Danny was on some "If I can't get him for chips and spare ribs, I'm not buying."

There were multiple times he could have gotten some help but he held those picks with an iron grip. OP changing the narrative with this one.
