I hear you breh.. shyt is just frustrating cause I actually love black folk I'm a harlem cat that happened to be born in DR but was raised out here meng. It saddens me to see how blind some of these otherwise intelligent dudes are.

I know wut u sayin, my fam came here from another country to build too. I think we're less biased and see this shyt a little more objectively. I feel where they comin from but they're just delusional now and blame the actions of few on larger groups and conspiracies instead of focusing on wut they can change

Groups of immigrants (including black) come here and ignore any persecution or problems to keep building until their community is respectable. That blueprint is tried, tested and true.

oh ya i forgot tho, like u said, on this site that would be being a c00n :snoop:

lol at "ignoring things we can change" this country was nazi germany to non blacks just 50 years ago. Blacks changed america into the country that accepted everybody, where someone from another country can come and make a living. We put in much work

what exactly are these dudes blind to, this would be the perfect opportunity to open their eyes while we're having the discussion?

change can only come from within. like gangstarr said,

we can all agree that life is unfair towards people of color in this country, but ya need to focus on what ya can change instead of spending SO much time complaining and protesting and being angry towards things that are outside of your control. Im not saying be blind to these things, but dudes need to spend all this intelligence that ya all have(not being sarcastic, there are some VERY intelligent black militants on the coli) on changing shyt from within the community instead of whining and being bitter and thinking about these extremely complex theories of institutionalized racism. Even going as far as attacking an entire group of people because they arent as angry and bitter about these things as ya. Whatever individual views on our heritage dominicans have, as a whole, we are here to make a better life for ourselves and our kids. Where we come from shyt is ten times worse than it is here and not on a racial level but on a economic class level. Here even the poorest and most oppressed eat 2 or 3 times a day. In DR the poorest can go days without a bite to eat, and that includes dominicans AND haitians. So when we come here, we have a completely different point of view. Its not about black or white, its about green. That green is the difference between life and death where we come from, LITERALLY. So forgive us for not giving 2 fukks about race.

You want change? Start by attacking the people that actually DO hold african americans back. African americans. Those thugs and gangsters and those girls twerking in the clubs while their grandmothers are babysitting their fatherless babies. Im not saying thats JUST blacks, all minorities and even whites have these problems as well. shyt dominicans and puerto ricans ESPECIALLY. But i feel like focus needs to be on parenting and education in OUR communities instead of this white supremacy system.

Like i said tho, if somebody attacks the thugs and the twerkers, it makes them a c00n or a racist on this site so theres no winning with ya :shaq2:

the previous generations did a TON for all of us. they made it possible for my fam to come here and prosper and thats why they are heroes to me.

but THIS generation is more concerned with next week's episode of housewives of atlanta and when the new jordans come out.

http://www.policymic.com/articles/66511/the-genocide-you-never-knew-about

Though it occurred just hundreds of miles from Miami, the Parsley Massacre is one of the least-known acts of genocide in the 20th century. The killings took place in the Dominican Republic, which shares the small island of Hispaniola with Haiti.
In October 1937, Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo ordered the indiscriminate killing of Haitian migrants along the countries' border. To differentiate between black Dominicans and Haitians, so the story goes, soldiers obliged rural workers to say “parsley” (perejil in Spanish). Pronouncing the “r” is difficult for native Creole speakers, and failure in the linguistic test could mean execution. Between 9,000 and 20,000 Haitians died over a five-day span, an episode that then-U.S. ambassador in Santo Domingo called “a systematic campaign of extermination” in a communiqué to Franklin Roosevelt.

Antihaitinismo (anti-Haiti sentiment) is a historically strong component of Dominican nationalism. After its independence in 1804, Haiti occupied the Dominican Republic for over 20 years, infuriating the country’s elites. During the 19th and early 20th century, the Dominican intelligentsia extolled their Hispanic and Catholic roots to distinguish themselves from the African and vodou elements of Haitian culture. This strain of antihaitinismo reached a new level under Trujillo, who, apart from exterminating Haitians immigrants, criminalized vodou and commissioned prominent intellectuals to defend his hardline approach.
On the 76th anniversary of the Parsley Massacre, those of Haitian descent continue to suffer from violence and discrimination. And the situation is not improving. Just last week, the Dominican Constitutional Court upheld a policy that denies citizenship to the children of undocumented immigrants. The country used to bestow nationality on any born within its borders until 2010, but a new constitution has since laid out stricter requirements. Many assumed that it would affect only those born after the policy change, but officials are applying it retroactively to include anyone who immigrated since 1929. The decision will impact 200,000 of the 1.2 million people of Haitian ancestry living in the Dominican Republic, many of whom have few or no ties to their homeland after decades of living abroad.
Life for these migrants will become especially difficult since Dominicans are required to present a birth certificate for routine purchases, such as cell phones, or to attend school. Complicating matters further is that these documents must be renewed every few months. Already, 40,000 people have been denied identity documents, even if they had previously possessed them, while the status of another 16,000 is currently under review. A few days ago, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights blasted the policy as “disastrous,” leaving tens of thousands in a state of “constitutional limbo,” stateless, and without access to basic services.
Government officials assert that there will not be mass deportations as a result of this policy, but since August 2012, over 47,000 undocumented Haitians have already been deported. This figure is double that of the previous year.
Not only are these campaigns large-scale, watchdog groups have criticized the deportations as inhumane. Over the summer, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights condemned the death of Jean Robert Lors, a young Haitian man who died at the hands of agents during an immigration sting. The same operation, the Commission feared, also resulted in the serious head injury of a 3-year-old child. The IACHR has also filed a lawsuit against the country for what it characterizes as “collective and mass expulsions of individuals, affecting both Dominicans and foreigners, and both documented and undocumented persons who had their permanent residence in the country and strong employment and familial ties with the Dominican Republic.” Phenotypically African characteristics and dark skin, the Commission concludes, are “decisive factors” during repatriation operations in which individuals are deported to Haiti without any legal recourse.

Dominican officials assert that they cannot be expected "to bear the brunt of the human and economic costs of the dire situation faced by the Haitian people, for which they see no better solution than to emigrate across an extremely porous border to the Dominican Republic." But as the country's history demonstrates, border protection can provide a guise for serious human rights abuses.

Dominican Republic is a country of redbones, over 70% of the country is mixed. I've seen some who are dark AF and I've seen some who are pretty white the majority are light brown skinned.

we can acknowledge the outside issues, but until minorities become strong from within, acknowledging the outside factors doesnt do shyt but give the weak a reason to stay weak. before u set out to fix the outside issues challenging us, we have to make sure we are strong and ready and built to the task.

You talk as if I didn't just say that I'm all for improving within. :snoop:

We have to do both going at them and improving ourselves. Stop being naive and start realizing that racist whites in power never sleep and maintain that roof over or heads at all times even to those who rise up will always hit the roof and stay suppressed until we go at it.

Always amazes me how much people don't focus on the roof at all and always rush to defend or downplay racist whites. :snoop:

how can we do both when we barely even taking care of our kids the right way? how the fukk we supposed to rise up and break thru this racist system when we cant even control our own kids and communities. you want to run before we can walk n it doesnt work like that.

what you want is to build a skyscraper on a shaky foundation. lets make the foundation solid first and then build up. you cant build the 30th floor and the basement at the same time breh.

i dont understand why you are being so defensive. EVERYBODY gets judged by their worse. blacks and latinos act like all white people are racist. isnt that judging people by their worse? we act like all cops aint shyt. all judges are there to throw all minorities in the cage for life. we do the same shyt.

i kno there are more than plenty of blacks and latinos doing their thing. shyt good for them im proud. one of the top education admins in columbia university is dominican. the president of the US is black. im proud of them. it doesnt mean we shouldnt acknowledge and fix the problems we have tho.
