I was binging on old 1997 Steve Austin promos (dailymotion not the wwe network cause it’s #NWG till infinity) and it hit me like an epiphany. The one reason why he has so hot and helped WWE reached its peak is because he was unabashedly white trash and deep down that’s what 90% of white America relates too.

Do you think that’s the main thing holding WWE back? A character white america could relate to? I think 2004 JBL would be huge in this Donald Trump era

It’s always been obvious that was part of how Austin related to the crowd, but it’s the fact that everyone felt like real people. Motivations made sense, and you had relatable faces most importantly. All of Austin’s grievances from a character standpoint made sense. That’s the sort of thing nobody has anymore.

No, that wouldn't get over with today's sensibilities.

That's people speculating Alexa is gonna '#MeToo' Baron Corbin. That may have worked 20 years ago, but it wouldn't work now.

Lmao that'd be hilarious actually

Probably on a subconscious level, I’m sure it played some factor.

Austin had the look/background to connect with white America but he had the swag, aura, and ability to get blacks, latins, hood folk, and the works fukking with him. It's in part what makes him one of the GOATs.

It's something Hogan desperately tried to accomplish with his Hollywood era during the NWO but couldn't quite reach that peak like Austin, and eventually Rock, were at during that specific era.

I feel like WWE back then matched the television landscape which was edgy. We're in peak television I feel like WWE needs to write better. They can and should have characters fans can relate too but everyone ain't a boring flannel wearing cac like most babyfaces in WWE and we also have larger than life characters like Stroman. Bray would've been a great larger than life character but for all the shyt he was talking he just barely beat Cena so it just looked silly. Fans should be trying to decipher his promos like he the yellow man and dude should've been kidnapping wrestlers but that would probably mess up their toy money, I'm sure a lot creative things they could do can't happen because of something like that.

I just thought about that Monday, itd be a cool storyline but no way WWE has the balls to make a rape accuser a villain. That’s a bad news story in the making.
