You didn’t prove anything

Proved more than you did. Saying "this is a lie" says nothing.

This is the era of streaming. A lot of these kids don't have liner notes at their disposal and a lot of them don't care who produced their favorite songs. This isn't an era where producers are stars. Producers put tags on their songs to let people know they did the track as opposed to the era of Dre, Timbaland, and The Neptunes whose sounds were easily recognizable and the instrumentals were stars on their own. Additionally, they were often featured on the songs they produced and they put out successful albums artists themselves. Same can't be said of Mustard or Mike Will.

Just to put this in perspective, when they were looking for producers to do music on Empire, Lee Daniel's kids suggested Timbaland. At the time, Mustard was all over the radio. Mustard and Mike Will were the dominant producers, but neither were brought on.

Your telling a 2nd hand story tho.....I have a 20 year old son and his friends come back and forth in and out my house. They play music on their phones and they play music when playing NBA2k. This been going on since we moved to the BX in 2014 when he was 15. It was my son who put me onto Two9

Plus I have pre teens who live in the neighborhood rec center that I myself frequent at times.. I recently spoke about how these teens were playing Cardi B during the rec center easter egg hunt and some fake militant said I was a coward for not stepping to the teens and telling them to turn it off even tho it was Hot 97 radio editted Cardi B. Thats were I get my info...Not no 2nd hand story that might be a lie told by Lee Daniels.

There is no way any regular urban teen from this era isn't familiar with Mustard and Mikes tags....Unless they are Amish.

You’re wrong

People know way more producers these days cause of producer tags?

You telling me people won’t remember 2018 for being the year of Tay Keith?

No they won't remember it being the year of Tay Keith. And that is my point about a producer tag. They have them for a reason and it's more important now than ever because producers aren't the stars they used to be. I know the name. I know what he does, but his name isn't ringing bells. I mean, when people think of Beyonce's "Before I Let Go", they aren't talking about Tay Keith. When they talk about "Nonstop" from Drake, they aren't thinking Tay Keith. Same goes for the Eminem song.

I am around people who are much younger as well, but none of them know any of these producers. Of course people know Cardi B. The producers of her songs aren't household names though. That is my point. By the time The Neptunes dropped The Clones album, they were household names. Pharrell is one of the biggest names in music even now. People still know Timbaland and Dre by name even Swizz. Mustard nor Mike Will are on that level.

I am talking about now. DJ Mustard isn't a household name to the point where if you mention him the average person knows who you are talking about. It's like saying Pharrell was a household name in the 90's or Timbaland was a household name right after "Pony".

And Pharrell was a household name a decade before "Happy".

I stopped reading once you said that. I dont belive you at all now. That Big Sean song was super big in this decade and in that e40 Rakim thread that was their go to stressing e40s relevance. YGs My nikka My nikka.... I'm not gonna sit here and listen to u tell me that "Mustard on the beat" wasn't popular in this decade amongst the youth. The same song where Jene Aiko made that line about eating groceries popular u gonna sit there and tell me no one was paying attention to the 'mustard' tag..... Rae Shurmmand had Hilary Clinton doing the mannequin challenge but u gonna tel me that "Mike Will" tag wasnt well known.

:snoop:

I'm done.

I know all these songs and yes those songs were huge, but you ain't throwing Mustard's name in a conversation and people know who Mustard is. I don't think you understand what a household name is. A household name is a name someone would know even if they aren't familiar with the songs. I'm sure most people know Cardi B even if they can't name one song she made or was a part of. People know Big Sean. And yeah a lot of people know the Omarion song, but it's not like Mustard is a household name off the strength of producing that song.

Mustard has albums and none of them sold. Same goes for Mike Will. When Timbaland was out here, he had a platinum album with Magoo and a platinum solo album a decade later. Pharrell had a gold album with Chad as The Neptunes and a gold solo album over a decade later. Dre goes without saying.

Mustard's solo songs even with big features flop. Mike Will's biggest song as an artist is "23".

How is this thread pointless? It’s bring up a good point

Female rap has never been more popular and yet there are no well known female producers

It would be dope if Cardi, meg, city girls start working with female producers
